🧵 Today I got to indulge an intersection of my interests in botany and accessibility - visiting the Botanical Garden of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg. I've been critiqueing botanical gardens on accessibility since volunteering at The Huntington Botanical Gardens.
Gardens are mental health oases for people, which means they should be accessible to disabled people too, but they often are not.

my server storage hit 100% full and took down basically everything. i got it fixed, but it's clear i need more drives before it happens again.
altbot is free, open source, and runs 24/7 generating alt text for anyone on the fediverse who needs it. it's real accessibility infrastructure and i want to keep free.
goal is $500 for a set of used (and tested for good health) enterprise drives off ebay. every little bit helps get there!

Seeing people talk about #webrings again and it's bringing tears of joy to my eyes. We need more connections that circumvent big tech and webrings can potentially provide powerful gateways to niche subject areas.
