Best #WorldCup game so far!
And I can’t believe I’m saying this about a scoreless game.
Cabo Verde—an island African country with a population of 500,000—came into this match ranked 67th best #soccer country in the world by FIFA.
Spain, meanwhile, is ranked 2nd in the world by FIFA and are favourites to win the whole tournament.
So what happens?
Vozinha, a 40-year-old goalie playing in the 2nd tier of Portuguese pro soccer, puts on the performance of his life. It was god-like. He stopped everything—all that Spain could dish out, he just smothered.
We have ourselves a legend!

Everyone has stopped talking about Gaza. Everyone is just completely consumed by World Cup news, as if football is somehow more precious than the human lives fighting daily just to survive.
those injured and wounded children left on waiting lists, lingering until Israel grants them permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Why is all of this happening!

The 2026 World Cup final could cost fans around $10,000 to attend.
For comparison: ticket prices have climbed roughly 1,000% since 1994, while incomes have barely kept pace. Who is the #WorldCup for anymore?

Full-time.
Australia wins, and quite convincingly too.
Turkiye tried, they have great talent on their squad, but it was simply Australia’s night.
Australia 2-0 Turkiye
Someone was complaining about Australia’s goalie, saying he was third rate, but he’s been an absolute boss against Turkiye and has robbed them on multiple occasions.
Australia nets another GOOOOOOOAAAAL!
And we have 15 minutes left in regulation!
Turkiye will have a hard time come back from this!
Australia 2-0 Turkiye
Half-time.
It’s been an entertaining match-up so far. Australia has been performing admirably but Türkiye has been pouring on the pressure.
Australia 1-0 Turkiye
GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
Right at the 26th minute, Australia counterattacks after Türkiye gets a shot on goal, which finds the ball back on Australia’s feet—and Australia swoops in, sweeps it past the Turkish goaltender.
It is on!
Australia 1-0 Turkiye
Cheering on Australia simply because they’re called the Socceroos.
Which I respect because they could have called themselves the Dingoals.
Or worse, the Foot-billed Platypuses.
Catching Australia vs. Türkiye because that’s happening in Vancouver at BC Place Stadium, the first #WorldCup match ever there.
Hmmm… I just noticed that Apple autocorrects Türkiye so that the umlaut is added and I don’t like that. I think all special characters in English should be voluntary.
Well, Scotland won 1-0 over Haiti.
How amazing is it that Scotland are the current leaders of Group C, currently over Brazil?
Haiti did give a good account of themselves, though.
Scotland now gets their first #WorldCup win since 1990.
Haiti is going to win this game against Scotland.
First, they’ll get a corner kick which will be headed into the goal.
And then at the 90th minute, they’ll seal the deal with a bicycle kick.
This is why Vancouver is awesome!
You’re saying I can watch a bunch of Korean ladies in red dresses sing about the #WorldCup?
Oh, sure, there are Korean men in white shirts and bow ties. But they’re in the back. The real show is the woman, full of gusto, singing their victory anthem.
Who needs K-pop when you have this? Not being ironic. I would totally pay to watch this.
But sadly, I will be in South Korea right as the Vancouver Korean Choir will be singing this #soccer themed concert.
Just for fun, USA gets a goal in the very last minute of their inaugural #WorldCup match.
Well done for them. They look like world beaters. But remember, Paraguay is not Brazil.
USA 4-1 Paraguay
Paraguay just got themselves on the board, so at least they don’t have that goose egg any more.
But they got 16 minutes of time left. I’ll be shocked if they can come from behind.
USA 3-1 Paraguay
HAHAHAHA!!!
Paraguay just got caught flopping! Initially, they got a free kick. But upon review, no contact was even made—and they got a yellow card as a result!
God, I’m not even cheering for USA, but this is pathetic on Paraguay’s part.
Sebastian Berhalter plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps, so I’m happy that he made USA’s #WorldCup team.
#Mexico is celebrating their 2-0 win over #SouthAfrica in the #WorldCup's opening match yesterday at the #EstadioAzteca and...

Only 10 players on Haiti's #WorldCup squad were born in Haiti.
The rest reflect a global Haitian community that stretches from the Caribbean to Europe.

Haiti at the World Cup is more than an underdog tale – it is the story of global migration

WE DID IT!
Canada’s first ever #WorldCup point—something we’ve failed to accomplish in other appearances. It wasn’t a win, but it was a solid tie. And we certainly didn’t deserve to lose.
Most importantly, Canada wasn’t an embarrassment. We performed well on the world stage.
Now we play Qatar and Switzerland. I don’t know if we can beat Switzerland, but Qatar is certainly beatable.
Canada 1-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina
1st Half is over—and this is brutal!
Bosnia & Herzegovina get one corner kick, and they convert it into a goal.
Canada gets 10 corner kicks! TEN! And we can’t make any headway.
We’re dominating possession and offence. And yet, we can’t seal the deal.
It would be really humiliating if we had this big splash on our home soil, with celebrities packed in the stadium, and we can’t pull off a win against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Although, to be fair, we’ve never won a #WorldCup game—ever.
God damn it. Bosnia & Herzegovina gets the opening goal against Canada.
We were doing a good job with possession. But Bosnia scored off a corner kick.
This sucks.
Canada 0-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina
I got chills hearing Alanis Morissette sing the Canadian national anthem for Canada’s inaugural #WorldCup game against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Now watching Canada vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina.
I would very much like Canada to win this game. We need a good showing in the World Cup to show we are a serious #soccer country, and more than just hockey. Though, if you’re from Canada, you already know this because Canadian football, lacrosse, and basketball are all a thing here too.
Nevertheless, soccer is the biggest sport in Canada in terms of participation. We have a good domestic league too.
For Iranian Americans watching this year’s #WorldCup, cheering for their national team has become a question of conscience.
The tournament will be hosted in a country at war with Iran for the first time in World Cup history, even as they oppose Iran’s government.

For Iran’s diaspora, a tough World Cup call: To support the national team or protest – or both?
Iran’s team faces a hostile reception from the US government and some of its brethren in the diaspora. Yet others hope the event will trump politics — for now.The Conversation
Of course, I’m cheering for Canada to win the #WorldCup. But that’s obviously not going to happen.
So when Canada makes their exit, I’ll likely cheer on Mexico, Curaçao, Haiti, or Panama. Basically, the CONCACAF nations. I wouldn’t mind USA to make it deep, but not to win—simply because I can’t stand the idea of USA winning both hockey gold at the Olympics and the World Cup.
And if no CONCACAF nations are left, I’ll be cheering on the African or Asian nations. Because, quite honestly, I’m tired of Europeans and South Americans dominating #soccer.
But if I have to choose a European or South American nations to win it all, my choices are Uruguay and Scotland.
Betting has turned passion into a transaction, with poor families in Brazil and elsewhere spending money that could have gone to food, transport, diapers, electricity, or rent.
