I knew that steel magnate Carnegie’s money was important in Scotland but don’t think I fully realized the scale. In the 1920s-1930s it apparently paid the fees of some 40% of full time university students in Scotland. (From Lindsay Paterson, Scottish Education in the Twentieth Century, p80) #scotland

"Police in Scotland have been put on alert because of the high risks of street protests and attempts by pro-refugee campaigners to stop detentions.

Local communities in Scotland have twice prevented deportations by staging mass protests on Kenmure Street in Glasgow, in May 2021, and in Nicolson Square, Edinburgh, in June 2022."

We need the spirit of Kenmure Street across the UK.

Aurora 20240416 @ 2358hr

It's been a while, and I missed the best of the evening by a whisker, but still got a good runner-up display around 0020hrs.

Mother Of Pearl

Polar stratospheric or nacreous clouds last Christmas.
Due to their altitude of 15,000–25,000 m (49,000–82,000 ft) and the curvature of the Earth's surface, these clouds shine brightly before dawn or after dusk. Consisting of ice crystals, these form below −78°C (−108°F) and are now more common outside of the polar regions due to global warming.

Since it's still pouring rain... 🙄 Although you still have to be reasonably careful with the pro camera gear, doing my job in wet conditions is still possible and I actually love it, as you see the dolphins in neutral, flat light with no glare on the wet skin - here's a young dolphin playing "Frisbee" with a jellyfish in the rain. #Dolphins #nature #Scotland #wildlifephotography.

Headland. This rocky shore is the landing place of saints and pilgrims.

This has got to be the blossomiest blossoming tree that I’ve seen in a long time. So thick with white flowers. Quite something!
