If I had to pick one Fediverse project right now that I'm the most excited about I'd probably say Bonfire.

I've had my eyes on it for a while, and they are building something really quite exciting there: a platform with modular functionality. If they manage to pull it all off it will be changing quite a few things and parameters for what is possible within Fediverse.

Full on community solutions for interest groups and with threaded discussions in open/closed groups, shared task lists, notes and kanban's for project groups etc, apart from a "regular" messaging platform, and it all seems to be built on a sensible tech stack that should be able to handle scaling etc (obviously based on how it is built).
