Talking out my ass here, but for those familiar with the intricacies of ActivityPub, as a protocol, does it have any potential for a federated marketplace/bazaar?
I really appreciate that Flipboard's ActivityPub implementation turns on full text search by default. It's the right choice for discoverability and user experience.
Now if only Mastodon would do something more to prompt users to consider enabling full text search for their accounts.
We've got new Dot Social podcast episodes coming with fediverse leaders, starting with @mike's conversation with Meta's @rklambo and @pcottle, two key people building #Threads. That one releases on Monday, followed by episodes with @snarfed.org and @molly0xfff. Be sure to subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Here's more info:

I think it would it would be cool if activitypub posts could render in matrix clients like how twitter rendered tweets in DMs
It'd also be cool if you could have basic interactions with likes and polls- though that'd probably be a lot more difficult to implement
Gotta love when people complain about getting banned/silenced from instances they don't own...
PSA: Fedi is not your free speech platform. Nobody owes you a platform to spout whatever the fuck you want. Matter of fact, any admin/moderator on Fedi can ban/silence you for whatever damn reason they please.
When you make your own instance and pay for it yourself, then you can have your own platform, but that won't stop other admins from yeeting you out of their instance...š
Doing some seasonal organizing of my internet browsing, and I'm going all-in on the #IndieWeb. I'm here for the wikis, the self-hosted blogs, the decentralized, chaotic social networks. I believe that's the future of quality information on the internet.
I hope to get around to hosting something myself someday, too, but I have yet neither the skills nor the budget.

Lovely #fediverse operators / #fediadmin, can someone point me to best practices when it comes to spinning up test instances that are designed to be deleted after some time?
It is unclear to me what happens in #ActivityPub when a server that was known disappears. I know this has happened in the past in rather traumatic ways (instance gone, backups gone, ...), so it must be somewhat well-supported.
Given that this is planned and designed though, I'd like to do things "properly" .
For all those on Threads that talk negatively of the Fediverse integration, those ones that are oblivious and then react very positively, make everything worth it.
Still in development, but got #ActivityPub replies working! Once it goes live, replies from the fediverse will show up on Remark.as.
Last major issue is to add some basic moderation. Already got instance-level blocking done so I can easily defederate from bad servers, but want to make sure we can handle any potential abuse from individual users too.

So none of you thinks the Threads / Activity Pub thing will have an impact?
My personal opinion is that its a strategic move to avoid regulation by being able to claim they are open.
Honestly the first sites that really need #ActivityPub federation are GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket and all repository sites, including self-hosted ones. Got to mass cater us developers first before the general public.
On a lesser note, I just want to star repos and they go into the same stars list. Open an issue and I can see a list of issues I reported across them all.

Out of my own curiosity, does Fediverse have a capacity limit problem?
I have always asked myself since joining (and seen with popularity of servers have problems with influx), will popularity kill small servers? Will only "serious" hosts survive? How does this play to fediverse/activitypub integrations?
(I am not trolling, seriously asking for information and feedback.)
#Mastodon and #ActivityPub devs:
since i don't write about unicorn ponies, there's quite a number of people, with whom i have never interacted, who block me. they can do as they please;
BUT!
why do i have to see these people's interactions on my timeline?
for weeks i have seen comments on my TL that when i try to see the thread, there's nothing there. this isn't just happening with people i follow, it's happening with hashtags i follow.
people who block me should not be on my TL.
I know you canāt read this yet on #threads but federating a existing service is not that complicated.
The #activitypub specification allows you to implement things in an incremental way.
I worked in federation of our #flipboard network.
Federating #ghost canāt be that complicated.
#GoToSocial users!
Are there sites that work as a bridge between #Twitter and #ActivityPub like https://bird.makeup that works with GtS? Kinda wanna subscribe to some creators out there
Just finished my daily hashtag abuse blocking....
It's kinda sad that I have to block 20+ accounts daily due to hashtag abuse. How about we start using hashtags ONLY when they're relevant? Yeah! That sounds like a great idea!
In Akkoma the language selector dropdown is large enough, however despite me listing my instance uses two languages (English and Swedish, with a default to English) it insists on listing EVERY LANGUAGE EVER SPOKEN IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE HAVE FUN SCROLLING THAT SUC*ER! š¤£
It takes ages, and is fiddly, to get to the correct option. Yet I do that whenever I remember and am about to post in Swedish, as some of the swedes have filtered out everything not-swedish.
Also, as I know you are interested in these things, when I had a (very quick) look around in Sharkey I couldnāt find a language selector at all.
I kinda wish the Language button in the post composer was universally bigger.
That way people might actually realize it exists and change their language if they're not posting in English....
En vrai je ne sais pas.

One thing I'm fuzzy on with #BlueSky's Public Data Servers (PDS) is why would anyone ever need to switch to a new PDS?
The selling point isā if you don't like your server, you can move your account. But PDSs have a greatly reduced role in #ATProto when compared to, say, #ActivityPub.
Nothing is handled on the PDS layer except storage and authentication. What could a server do to make someone unhappy enough to move?

Having said that, I think that #ActivityPub has far more adoption today than Nostr and that is only going to accelerate as more networks federate in the coming months. While Nostr has a lot of interesting ideas we can learn from, it is also quite arcane and requires an encryption key just to use it. That sets up a hard stop for non-technical people (i.e. mainstream audiences) to ever adopt it.
I said it elsewhere, but I say it here too, I HATE how corporate social media sites have taken SOCIAL out of social media.
Thankfully the Fediverse is mostly taking that back. But if we don't expand to get those that are still on corporate social media to move here, then we'll just become the echo chambers we hate. That's why the Threads integration is a good thing. We need to expand.

Post from @rabble on why he's chosen to use #Nostr and not #ActivityPub and the #Fediverse. He makes some compelling points. Personally I am not too worried about the server admin parts of his argument (I have enough control, even if I don't control the server), but I agree that this isn't ideal:
"You canāt use a single fediverse identity with your profile and followers in Peertube, Mobilizon, WriteFreely, and Pixelfed. You need a totally separate account in each one."
