Lot of pink magnolias around town but not many yellow. I've one nearby but it's small & its blooms brown before opening. Happy to find this one in its prime earlier this month but it's on the other side of town so I don't catch it every yr.

The view is from the side, and the flower faces upward obscuring the anterior petals and revealing a small portion of the central reproductive cone. This variety of magnolia has 7-9 pink petals/sepals that radiate from and form a loose cup around cone-shaped reproductive structures made up a large number of stamens below a cone of pistils. This species has yellow petals/sepals, brown and yellow anthers and bright green pistils. Magnolia flowers bloom in early spring before the tree begins producing leaves.
