However you look at it, #ageverification is a major change to the internet and our freedoms.
We've seen all kinds of legislation pushed through in the past, often even against major resistance.
What makes me suspicious this time is the speed at which some of the slowest bureaucracies in the world are adopting it and how it's happening in 20+ countries in parallel.
It's like they're all in a group chat, fast-tracking this before resistance can even form.

'Major step forward': French lawmakers approve social media ban for children under 15
France's parliament on Tuesday approved a social media ban for children under 15. President Emmanuel Macron immediately hailed the "major step forward", saying in a video posted on social media that "France is leading the way in Europe when it comes …FRANCE 24

I hate what my computer delivers to me via youTube or BBC or SkyNews and such and I pay for the computer and internet that puts it on my screen. I can't watch news without constant advertising or unwanted commentary - an example.
It's not much use "protecting" anyone from this. It's where it comes from that needs to be looked at.

Defeating all forms of unmonitored communications, especially for the young, makes sure that there can be no next generation of resistance.
It's a war of extermination against everyone who believes in democracy.

The timing seems very conveniently connected to the Epstein thing.
It's would be even cheaper than war to get rid of people in the age bracket for resistance (old people can't physically fight back), plus you don't loose worker bees as an extra benefit!

I recently talked to somebody in the field (top 500 corp) and didn't get the sense that they could coordinate something like this.
Did you see the fast one they pulled with #chatcontrol?

I've used the Metaverse perhaps twice, but VR games like Call of Duty are extremely impressive and I like taking 360-degree panoramic photos using a Ricoh Theta Z1 and a DJI Osmo 360, have been shooting panos for over 25 years, and VR headsets are ideal viewing devices for these. So I am happy Zuck has been subsidizing the development of the hardware and cheap devices like the Oculus Go (sadly discontinued) to further my hobby.

Very glad at least somebody got something out of those $80 billion haha
What do you see as the next big development in VR btw? Do you predict full body experience hardware or something else will be next?

in reply to MadeInDex 📰🌎 • • •@a_cubed it's pretty clear to me no one wants to use VR goggles for social networking of for work collaborations, so that leaves only entertainment: games, immersive move experiences. For games, the problem is bumping into walls. There was a company that made a kind of 360 degree treadmill so you feel you are walking but are actually staying in place. Most of these look like niche applications that won't justofy the investments sunk this far by Meta or Apple.
AR is another story entirely, and has potential, specially when combined with AI.

Like their pivot to AI, it's all about maintaining the myth that they are a growth company not a mature one. Once they're seen as mature their market cap P2E ratio goes to 3 instead of 6 or more and they can't manufacture their own money (issue shares) any more. Pivot to video, pivot to VR, pivot to AI. Regular as bubble clockwork. Wait for pivot to Quantum when LLM bubble bursts.

Another reason I see for big #software corps pretending to be #hardware corporations is to hide their #monopoly,
#Google = Search, #Meta Messenger + certain parts of Social Media...
