“What grinds our gears is that a large corporation thinks it can come here and set the rules on the Swedish labor market,” says Trade Union Confederation president Susanna Gideonsson. “To think you can waltz in here as a feudal lord and think a whole country should adapt to one’s whims is just wrong.”
"Sure, Zaslav deserves to be staked out over and anthill and slathered in high-fructose corn syrup. But save the next anthill for the Sony exec who shipped a product that would let Zaslav come into your home and rob you. That piece of shit knew what they were doing and they did it anyway. Fuck them. Sideways. With a brick." - @pluralistic
"One of the world’s leading experts on misinformation says she was fired by Harvard University for criticising Meta at a time that the school was being pledged $500m from Mark Zuckerberg’s charity.
Joan Donovan says her funding was cut off, she could not hire assistants and she was made the target of a smear campaign by Harvard employees."
The fallout is growing from Tesla’s continued refusal to sign a collective agreement with its Swedish mechanics.
On top of the solidarity strikes, one of Denmark’s largest pension funds is selling its $58 million stake in Tesla for refusing to respect the Nordic labor model.
Tech workers! The way that you:
1️⃣ get to make a dent in the universe again
2️⃣ get to dream big about doing stuff that matters

Youtube's tantrum escalates.
Forced to concede that they cannot outpace ad blocking extensions, parent company Google artificially limits the rate of extension updates in Chrome.
No justification for the user experience is given, and in fact this makes chrome users more vulnerable to attacks injected via ads.
Yesterday Elon Musk told advertisers to go fuck themselves and threatened to send his mob after them if they pull their ads from Twitter/X.
Over the years, he built a reality where he was a genius who could never be wrong. But as his fantasy collides with the real world, Musk is melting down — and has the power to make us all feel the pain as he crashes back to Earth.
So did I mention that no company or government pays me for the work I do?
But you can support my work if you want to live in a world where we have the Small Web as an alternative to the Big Web of Google, Facebook, and other people farmers.
Apartheid Clyde wanted to feel some childhood nostalgia so he made a trip to Israel to pal around with Zionists for a day.
Last year he turned off Starlink access for Ukraine in key areas after speaking to Russian officials. Now he’s letting Israel’s far-right government decide whether human rights and medical groups in Gaza should have access to it.
Don't Be Evil, TL;DR: @pluralistic explores the enshittening of the internet, where online services have become increasingly terrible, and argues that it's not due to moral decay but rather the result of institutional actions and the erosion of competition. He emphasizes the importance of fighting for a new, good internet that prioritizes human liberation.
“There are industry observers talking about the need for AIs to have a sense of ethics … I find these suggestions ironic given that we as a society have failed to teach corporations a sense of ethics.” — Ted Chiang in 2017

"…Official PeerTube mobile application (end of 2024)"
This has been a long-requested development from the PeerTube community, and something I hear from our #tilvids community all the time. What an exciting development from an amazing organization! 🙌
More organizations should focus on providing an important function in a sustainable manner, rather than growing for the sake of growth. That way, the Bay Area’s broad base of talent could be put to better use pushing technology forward. There are smart people here. Unfortunately, some of the greatest minds of my generation are stuck at overstuffed companies, trying to make a few more dollars for their bosses.
Consider checking out #Peertube as your next step! ▶️
How is anyone NOT using @mozilla #Firefox by now? Between this and intentionally slowing #YouTube traffic for Firefox/uBlock users, #Google is officially evil. Please support an #open #decentralized non-profit #Internet !
ThinkPad + Fedora is a killer combo, and it couldn't get any easier than having Fedora installed right out of the box.
You can get the latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon with Fedora Workstation straight from Lenovo! Buying in this way communicates to Lenovo that there is demand, so it helps a ton.
(You can put another spin or distro on it later. That's ok!)
When we warn the real threat of AI is how it’s used against people in the present, not the fantasies that some day computers might think for themselves, this is exactly the kind of thing we’re talking about: health insurers using AI to deny care.
A fair warning: As of right now, the DeckHD display is not fully compatible with SteamOS 3.5.5. While it still functions after the update, you won't be able to change the refresh rate. Therefore, you might want to hold back that update until FXTec comes up with a fix.
image generators are about to get weird(er).
"A new tool lets artists add invisible changes to the pixels in their art before they upload it online so that if it’s scraped into an AI training set, it can cause the resulting model to break in chaotic and unpredictable ways. "
