That being said, I don't think mastodon.social will raise them anytime soon unfortunately.
As an admin of my own instance, I do wish they'd put it directly into the config file to make it easier, but I didn't have much issue changing them.

in reply to Aga, das Gartenzwergmammut 🦣 • • •@Weinberg it's unfortunate that more instances don't allow you to upload larger media, but there *are* a lot of other instances that have a higher character limit for posts.
So if the character limit is important to you, there are options to migrate, you just have to ask around and find out which instance has a character limit that works good for you.👍

Both features degrade usability.
Collapsed posts degrade usability because OP often cannot tell which of their several posts garnered interaction
Grouping hides who interacted with a post.
