Looks like #Tumblr will finally join the #SocialWeb once migration to #WordPress is complete.

And because it’s migrating to WordPress, it will be using #ActivityPub for WordPress to do this.

What’s interesting is that people are already demanding #ATProto so Tumblr will connect to #Bluesky. But from a business perspective, that’s a bad idea unless Automattic plans to run its own firehose—which can be quite expensive.

unfortunately with the way regular devs get harassed on AP, ATProto will probably eventually pull ahead in the amount of projects running on it.😔

@BeAware No, it would be long term suicide to build on ATProto.

The solution is to build for the Social Web, not the Fediverse.

I'm sure the harassers don't give a single fuck about devs futures if they build on ATproto instead of AP. That's what they want.

Fedi won't be able to build with discoverability and usability in mind while the Fedi HOA is around, regardless of what we want.

@BeAware I don’t believe the HOA has actual tangible power apart from defederation and dogpiles.

How have they prevented Threads from using ActivityPub and Google indexing their posts? They haven’t.

Would be very curious how feasible "run their own firehose" actually is. Aware of all the marketing hype and papers, but that is a far cry from working code. Wonder what anyone who actually tried to make a parallel Bluesky would discover if they got a real look under the hood? How many shortcuts crippling any real decentralization have been made?

@mastodonmigration I mean, the #FreeOurFeeds initiative are spending $30M to force actual decentralization with #ATProto. Which I respect. But the fact it costs that much speaks volumes.
