A federal judge has blocked the removal of a #Palestinian activist who was detained at #ColumbiaUniversity

#MahmoudKhalil is being held at a Louisiana detention center, his attorney said.

Khalil was arrested by #Trump’s ICE agents at Columbia University over the weekend, despite having a #GreenCard sparking an outcry from #CivilRights groups. His attys subsequently filed a #HabeasCorpus petition challenging his arrest.

"To preserve the Court's jurisdiction pending a ruling on the petition, Petitioner shall not be removed from the United States unless & until the Court orders otherwise," Judge Jesse Furman wrote in a notice ordering a conference for Wed morning in the case.

#ICE agents arrested #MahmoudKhalil -- a leader in the university's encampment movement -- on Saturday night, claiming that his student #visa had been revoked, his attorney, Amy Greer, said to ABC News.

However, #MahmoudKhalil is in the #UnitedStates on a #GreenCard & NOT on a student #visa, Greer said Sunday. Despite informing agents about his #legal status, #ICE detained him, she said.

#Trump claimed Khalil was a "Radical Foreign Pro-Hamas Student" & said it was the "first arrest of many to come" in a post on his social media.

"We will find, apprehend, & deport these terrorist sympathizers from our country -- never to return again," he added.
