Hey #neuroscience folks, for some reason my university thought it was a wise idea to be put me in charge as director of our neuroscience institute for a little while. Those of you working in the trenches at all levels (e.g. students, RAs, postdocs, faculty) I'd like to hear from you.

What are specific things that a department/institute can do to either inject more joy in the work or make the process of research easier?

A very interesting paper arguing that thinking is independent of language! Important implications for philosophy, but also if language is merely a communication tool and not the foundation of intelligence, what does this mean for the likes of chatGPT and friends?

Anyone can learn #echolocation in just 10 weeks — And it remodels your brain scientificamerican.com/article… Now imagine what encoding a truly visual live camera view into sound may do to your brain, letting you hear zebra crossings and all things visual... #neuroscience

"Human echolocation repurposes parts of the brain's visual cortex for sound, even in sighted people."

@mike I was annoyed at first but then realised that web of science is in charge of giving an #ImpactFactor to journals, and so I guess it actually makes sense since the #eLife model goes against the principle of impact factor... Right?
