Älgen weeknotes!
It's been a while since Älgen appeared, but this week it made SVTPlay, Sweden's public broadcaster, as part of this year's Great Moose Migration kick-off!
I also brought it back in to the workshop to try out a new 3D-printed part made custom not just for the guitar, but how the guitar is currently used.

Älgen Catchup
Catching up with Älgen: I end up on Swedish Public Broadcasting with the story of Älgen, and I go one level further into custom parts enabled by 3D-printing.Electric Flapjack Guitars
It's not affecting the print, but, any advice on that tennis net, #3dPrinting?
First print with the Capricorn tube, seems otherwise fine. The Capricorn is indeed a very tiny bit thinner than the stock Bowden on the printer, but a very small amount. My eyes saw what they saw and the calipers confirm it but I wonder if I really saw it.

From here we scale up production and start making #openhardware out of plastic bottles!!
I think I first saw it from 3D Printing Professor, but ]printing TPU with 100% or better 80% infill with many walls and top and bottom layers, to print rigid objects with it. The impact resistance and compression strength is quite insane as well.
I’ve seen this posted a couple places here (@koz was probably the first I saw) but it’s interesting data on the wear characteristics of 3D printed materials.

It’s worth a watch, but here are my highlights:
TPU is the big winner, definitely a material I need to spend some more time with…
PETG puts up a very robust fight though, especially considering how much easier it is to print than a PC or Nylon.
Big wearing test, which filament type is the most wear resistant?
Let's find out, which filament type is the most wear resistant (in friction with the metal). Tested material types: PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PC (PolyCarbonate), ...YouTube
I watched this video, and I was surprised by the results.
I haven’t had an exact use for it yet, but I will keep it in mind. I hope he does more videos of different types of wear and tear.
The Ploopy headphones have become my daily drivers but I just don’t want to give up the desk real estate they require…
So I printed them a permanent residence.
