It also aligns with my ongoing discomfort about the relentless focus on profit-driven thinking. This mindset ultimately led me to found @okbr, the Brazilian chapter of the nonprofit organization @okfn, which started 13 years ago.
That decision was shaped by my earlier experiences working for a company that exploited its employees with unpaid overtime, including countless holidays and weekends.
The shortcomings of traditional centralized social media platforms run by big tech companies have raised awareness among a growing number of people - but it’s still far from reaching the critical mass needed for real change.

A critical look at Bluesky: Despite claims of decentralization, the core infrastructure remains tightly controlled by Bluesky Social, PBC, a VC-funded, for-profit company. With a proprietary protocol (ATProto) developed solely in-house, the incentives lean toward control rather than true federation. For now, it's still better than ExTwitter, but don't mistake it for Mastodon's openness.

Det är inte bara inom ekonomin, geopolitiken och miljön som vi i #Europa nu har anledning att se om vårt eget hus. Nu behöver vi även tänka om vad gäller de amerikanska techbolagens dominans. Vi i Europa behöver steppa upp rejält inom #IT och #AI och försöka ta oss ur beroendet av både #USA och #Kina.
Föreställer mig att det är decentraliserade lösningar som kan bli svaret på denna utmaning.
