The moon and stars must have aligned this year, as the spring wildflower display in Andalicia is stunning and prolific. I have enjoyed photographing and posting these beautiful flowers.

Now you can see all the photos in my latest blog post, Wildflowers in Andalucia: https://grainyphotos.com/posts/wildflowers-andalucia/

One area that I am more and more intrigued by with this project is when parts of the body simply fade away into nothingness. It's hard to replicate, but it can be very powerful, as I think it is here. The question then becomes "how far can I go and still have a recognisable portrait..."

More wildflowers of Andalucia

I love the way these wildflowers in the olive groves worked out - reminds me of a meadow (this is in an olive grove)

Image of the day is *Pointillism*, an in-camera double exposure on film.

There's something special about tiny leaf textures. While you can hardly distinguish the leaves themselves, they create a powerful pointillist effect, as if the painter Seurat had taken the photograph. While this image is very simple in concept, it's maybe the one that moves me the most from our session with Simon. I definitely intend to do an analog print of this one.

“It’s like a whole world of intellectuals and artists got a multibillion-dollar grant from the tech world... But we mistook that, and were frankly actively gaslit into thinking that that was because they cared about art."

A fascinating article on Hollywood, the writers' strike, and the state of film and television. There are so many incredible quotes...

I'm finally getting the opportunity again to shoot male models. I've always found it more difficult to recruit male models for this project, and it's much harder work, simply because I lack the spontaneous vocabulary that we all have for female nudes, having been exposed to a lot more of it in advertising and media. Which makes it all the more interesting. This is a simple pose to start with, very statuesque.

These two photos from the collection of the LOOK Magazine Photograph Collection at the Library of Congress are notable not just for their composition but also that they were taken by a young Stanley Kubrick.

Kubrick had sold LOOK a few photographs while he was still in high school in New York City, later becoming a full-time staff photographer. These photos, available on Flickr Commons, were taken when he was 18 or 19.

Oh! And we’re not that far removed from the numerous (positive) writeups about the cinematography choices for The Batman, where they were doing a very similar thing conceptually https://nofilmschool.com/why-does-batman-look-so-gorgeous-and-how-you-can-copy

20 years ago today, "Shaun of the Dead," the world's first rom-zom-com, got its full theatrical release in the U.K. GQ talked to director Edgar Wright, star/co-writer Simon Pegg and co-star Nick Frost about George Romero, cricket-bat-swinging, record-hurling, and whether they'll ever get the band back together. This is the movie that started the Cornetto Trilogy. We want to know, which is your favorite of the three?

The olives are starting to blossom

The blossoms are tiny, just a couple of millimeters accros. From a distance you cant see the blossoms; the olive trees look a bit lighter in colour.

File this under "things we never knew we wanted until we discovered we couldn't have them." David Lynch pitched an animated project called "Snootworld" to Netflix, but was rejected. He started working on the script 20 years ago with Caroline Thompson, writer of "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Edward Scissorhands" and 1991's "The Addams Family." Here's what the pair told Deadline.

Image of the day is *Chervilled*, an in-camera double exposure on film.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don't know if that texture was actually chervil (I somehow doubt it, just growing randomly in a park) but whatever it is I love the delicate little branches. And they look like chervil. Anyway, they make for a great texture, as you can see here.

Images of the day are *The Lemon Portraits*, cyanotype prints on Hahnemühle Harmony HP 300gsm
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the result of an idea I've wanted to try for a while now: a cyanotype print of a portrait that has a fruit or plant in the portrait, and is framed by the same plant. I first tried the lemon slices as photograms, but that didn't work: the exposure time for the lemons was 4 or 5 times that of the portrait, and even with maximum exposure, they came out blurry because I could only put them on the glass, not under the glass. So I went another route and photographed each individual slice of lemon to form a second layer negative with just the framing, and then exposed the portrait and the frame at the same time. These are my first attempts, but I'm quite pleased with them, I must say.
