They are showing movies for free in the clubhouse of the community we just moved to.

This month they will be showing IRON CLAW (pro wrestling bio pic about the Von Erich clan) and THE BEEKEEPER (Jason Statham goodness).

I have found my people. 😎

Sure, forcing the CEO out just before earnings calls and in the middle of negotiations to sell yourself is a look. Just not a good one.

Sure it'll be great for stocks.

The soundtrack for The Greatest Hits is fantastic (as it should be since the movie revolves around music).

Yesterday I watched...

Challengers (2024)

Two high school tennis players are smitten with a high school tennis phenom. We flash forward to her being married, and then a series of flashbacks involving competition, sexual tension, dating, and more competition among all the leads. They all have great chemistry with one another.

By the way, just the act of eating is this film is filled with implied sexuality. Also it made me want to have a churro.

It's a film about tennis, relationships, and control.

Features a mostly techno soundtrack that thumps along with the on court and off court action.

Be aware this is an arthouse type film, and will not likely appeal to everyone. Me, however, I enjoyed it. It definitely spurred conversation afterwards.

Stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist

Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Code 8 Part II (2024) isn’t a bad movie, but it isn’t great either. I liked the first one and was surprised they decided to do a sequel.

The series takes the ideas of X-Men and strips the mutants of their colorful Spandex and inserts them into the real world.

The robots are still iconic, but they take backseat to some Boston Dynamics inspired robotic dogs.

The corruption in the police force trope is in high gear with this movie.

There were a couple of really great sequences in the movie. One using extreme slow motion for full effect and it turned out great.

Rated 6 out of 10.

I started watching...

Madame Web (2024)

last night and I'm about half way through the movie.

(sigh)

Within the first 10 minutes, you realize the movie isn't being handled well.

There's problems with the dialogue, the camera angles, the story, the special effects, and even the casting feels off.

First of all, do people talk this way is real life? Some of the dialogue is laughable.

The story isn't helping. I'm half way in, and barely know any of the characters. Why are there four people dressing like Spider Man? What is the motivation behind the main villain?

I couldn't help but wonder if there were too many characters.

It's about a girl whose mother dies after giving birth to her, but the mother just before giving birth, is bitten by a mysterious and hard to locate spider. Years later the girl develops powers.

Stars Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott

Directed by S. J. Clarkson

One of my favorite quotes from the movie Interstellar.

Logged into Hulu to see what movies look interesting for tonight. In the popular queue there are two Dermot Mulroney movies from 2023. Has he entered his Liam Neeson/Keanu Reeves "older dude" action star period of his career?

For a decade, Hollywood hasn’t aggressively fought piracy because it saw people would pay if they made them a good deal.

But as streaming has gotten worse and more expensive, consumers turned back to file sharing. Now the industry plans to get Congress to pass new legislation to stop them.

Legally Blonde is such a silly fun movie. It’s hilarious and endearing. There are parts where it shows its age, but overall it’s a timeless movie that should be seen. Jennifer Coolidge steals every scene that she’s in. That woman is brilliant. Matthew Davis is perfectly smarmy in the movie.

I recently bought & just received a used copy of #TheBulletTrain on DVD.

I'm just starting watching it and I'm already regretting the purchase. I should have known better. LOL! 😉

Fortunately, it didn't cost that much . . .

I can't help myself finding it all quite poignant that Dune--set in a future where the production of machines designed to think like humans has been out-lawed--should be having its brightest moment in the sun right now, just as the experience shallowing potential of AI is beginning to dawn on us.

So, as a follow-up to "The Notebook" (2004), which I've watched countless times, I'm now watching "Top Gun" (1986) which I've watched countless times too.

There's even some romance in "Top Gun" but I've never found the "connection" between #TomCruise & #KellyMcGillis credible because they never seemed like a plausible match to me which was clearly a casting problem.

The romantic "connection" between Cruise & #JenniferConnelly was much better in "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022) IMO. 🤷‍♂️

I am apprehensive about TRON:Ares, the sequel to TRON and TRON: Legacy. The big thing that makes me uneasy is Jared Leto.

Though seeing Cameron Monaghan (aka Cal Kestis) on the credits is cool. So is seeing Gillian Anderson (aka Scully).

For the most part, It's really slow but I've always liked #Interstellar

Partly, it's because #MatthewMcConaughey** **#JessicaChastain & #AnneHathaway are 3 of my favorite actors from the current era and that #MichaelCaine & #EllenBursten are favorite actors of mine from the past.

But also because like the way it deals with the space-time continuum & the search for alternative sites for human habitation.

I like #MattDamon as an actor too but what I like least about the movie is how his character behaves which I consider an unnecessary distraction but it is what it is. 🤷‍♂️

I remember seeing Interstellar in theaters when it was released…and hating it. I have since grown to like the movie after multiple viewings.

The movie is getting a second release this September, I am looking forward to seeing it again on the big screen ten years later.

Aw-yeah! It's that time again! I've been reading mixed things about Civil War (and, frankly, that movie looked less like fun and more like a homework assignment).

But I got a ticket to a late night showing of Patel's Monkey Man at the Alamo Drafthouse. I'm excited!
