Did you know BMI is a dumb ratio?
I don't mean the concept itself is dumb. I mean it's literally a ratio involving weight and height. That's it. No other context.
I had a gym rat of a boss with 11% body fat with an obesity BMI due to dense muscle.
I guarantee you Kim Kardashian, with her absurdly small waist line, but large butt and chest, has an obesity BMI.
Body composition is a way more accurate measure. BMI doesn't measure body composition, no matter what others will tell you.
I just started using the app Gentler Streak on iOS and while poking around, I found that I am able to create a summary for all of my activity last year. This is pretty neat.
The biggest thing that I like about the app is that it uses data from Apple Health and all the data processing happens on device with nothing leaving the device.
I tend to get hyper focused on numbers and sometimes get into keeping unhealthy streaks. So I'm hoping Gentler Streak will help me keep myself sane and healthy.
Also, I have no idea what happened in October 2023.
I’m not sure if I mentioned the iOS app HealthFit before, but it is the one app I use the most as a runner and for my fitness.
The Apple Watch tracks a lot of metrics, but Apple seems to have left the turning of that data into meaningful information up to third party apps that interface with Apple Health.
HealthFit does a great job at making the Apple Health fitness data understandable and meaningful.
The app is a one time purchase with no subscription. You can become a supporter through a subscription and help out the really responsive dev (I am a supporter since I have been using the app for so many years).

I haven’t been running consistently this year, mainly because of all the traveling I did in the first three months.
I definitely haven’t been running the distances I had before, so it was nice to run a 5K today.
