Mid-March and Reynisfjara¹, the famous black beach in southern #Iceland, is completely deserted apart from ourselves.
Fiercely cold but exceptionally beautiful. Only the wailing of sea-birds and soft lapping of the waves disturbed the peace.

A colour photo of a beach, reduced almost to monochrome. The sands stretching before the viewer are black and the waves provide a white foam contrast. A line of ice clutter has been left across the volcanic sands by tidal action, and the distant mountain is snow-capped. At the end of that promontory are sea stacks standing in the ocean. The sky is grey and overcast, heavy with snow. In the middle foreground is a single stack of rock, standing alone on the strand like a stump.
