The view from Raven's Rock in Wicklow at the end of 2024 was absolutely surreal. The world below was hidden, leaving just this little island of trees floating in a sea of white.

I think it’s pretty obvious why Buachaille Etive Mòr (the Great Herdsman of Etive) is one of Scotland’s most photographed mountains.

Here, we call them Munros: any mountain over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres). If you climb one, we say you’ve ‘bagged’ a Munro, and Munro-bagging is a favoured weekend activity among our most motivated citizens.

Fun fact. I’ve been learning Scottish Gaelic for two years now and had to double check when I heard this name, but yes, Lochan na h-Achlaise does indeed translate to Loch of the Armpit.

I was curious which photo might show up if I sort my Catalogue by my rating. Yet there are still some unprocessed folders.

But .. regarding my rating, I took my best photo close to the end of the year! Due to many reasons I didn't take as many photos this year as usual. But this one really resonates with me. I could start writing so much about what I feel when I look at it.

Cold Morning at Chefron (2023)

Fun fact - I took this image about 15min before I fell through the ice into the river below... That was the first of two times I would fall into a river in winter that year. I wouldn't recommend.

Thankfully, I was nearby my car and had a sleeping bag and dry clothes ready to change into! Paid off to be prepared.
