Stratovolcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted in 2010, disrupting air traffic in northern and western Europe for a week.
Now, it's quiet. At its northern foot, many farms are working the fertile land.

February has frozen the lake solid, but visitors are still walking along the tops of the rootless cones.
Mývatn¹ in Skútustaðahreppur, north-eastern #Iceland is a shallow lake situated in an area of active volcanism, near Krafla volcano.

Mid-March and Reynisfjara¹, the famous black beach in southern #Iceland, is completely deserted apart from ourselves.
Fiercely cold but exceptionally beautiful. Only the wailing of sea-birds and soft lapping of the waves disturbed the peace.
