In Shadow

Following the road around the fjord's edge, we chased patches of sunlight across the mountains.

The impressive peaks were hidden beneath hats of thick cloud, but the slopes were clear.

1) View from Höfn
2) & 3) Snædalsfoss
4) An icelandic beauty (they were so cute!)

On a different stage in the journey, we even booked a horseback ride - it was my first time on a horse, while my SO is a fairly decent rider. Maybe I'll post something when we get to that point in the journey :D 🐎

After a picknick, we're heading over to one of the most famous spots of Iceland: Jökulsárlón

Located in the Vatnajökull National Park, it is Iceland's deepest glacier lake and an incredible sight, where the big glaciers turn into a lake, forming small icebergs that then float out towards the ocean (foreshadowing the content of upcoming next posts).

Icecold - inside a glacier.

Went on a guided icecaving tour inside an icecave that was exposed after the glacier has pulled back into the land in its yearly cycle.

'Basin' (2025)

Last year I had the chance to visit Tasmania for the first time & to have a crack at the first day of the Overland track.

That walk is unreal & very cold in the off-season, the weather kept changing & clouds kept shifting across the landscape.

Tech: Single hand-held shot at f/6.3, ISO 100, 1/200sec at 24mm

Canyon Fjaðrárgljúfur on #Route1 towards Vatnajökull

It was a great #hike up there, would have loved to have hiked even longer, but on the southern coast there were so many POI's during the 380 km trip between stays.

Autumnal

Between dark clouds, the sun spotlit the serried terraces tumbling down to the fjord far below.

High turrets of mountains displayed their ribs. A patchwork of highlights slid across soft hills lower down.

Everywhere around, the soothing sound of water splashing down to meet the fjord below.

October: Sunbeams, showers, and rainbows; it was a great day for photography. Mjóifjörður in eastern #Iceland.

OTD 2019

We decided to spend our birthdays in Iceland that year.
My partner's is the day before mine, so this is what we did on my birthday that year.

Pic 1: From Varmahlíð, after a good breakfast we started out along Skagafjörður

Pic 2: Through Tröllaskagi to Öxnadalur and lovely Hraundrangi

Pic 3: Arriving in Akureyri, the traffic lights love us

Pic 4: Akureyri from the opposite side of Eyjafjörður, with Hlíðarfjall above

Perfect! 🎉

Part 4 of 🇮🇸 #Iceland2025

After the sun has set, we're finally moving on to the next day image-wise!
Driving out of Reykjavík to Þingvellir Nationalpark:
Out there, we overheard a guide explaining that on some days you can't even see the lake due to fog! That's why I'm a bit proud of image 3, which consists of 7 single images giving view over the whole mountain range :)

In 4, you can see the summer residence of the prime minister.

Part 3 of 🇮🇸 #Iceland2025

The weather was perfect that day with almost no clouds!

Still the same day and spot, a few more images during sunset.
Used ND-filters for the long exposure images (1 & 4).

Weird And Wonderful

This peculiarly beautiful place was formed when softer rock was eroded by glacial meltwater, leaving these strange upright pillars of harder material.

The result is a two kilometre long and 100 metre deep canyon where pareidolia runs wild. There are faces and creatures all around you, petrified.

Serenity

A crystal clear sky, not a cloud in sight.
Still, clean water broken by the wake of boats and the heads of seals.
A majestic sweep of glacial ice, curving down to the water's edge.
The nunataks of Esjufjöll standing blue-black against the white ice.
The medial moraine between the converging ice sheets, leading down to the calving snout.

Soft reflections in the water surface.

A perfect day at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

After 20 years I still get amazed that sometimes we can see the Riff mountains in Morocco from our mountains here in Spain. These pictures were taken yesterday on our walk. Long distance views were hazy yesterday but you could still see the mountains over 200km away. In each picture you can see the mountains, even snow on one of the shots. Europe to Africa.

Second day, sunset at the most western point of Reykjavík 🇮🇸
Had a little walk up and down the coast waiting for the sun to set.

First image is a three part mosaic if I recall correctly.
