For me the biggest difference after having experimented with Bluesky for the last month, with 2 years of being on the Fediverse (Mastodon primarily), is user behaviour.
Bluesky has more shitposting to put it simply. But that's what makes it feel less hostile compared to the Fediverse. It feels more like a social square.
The Fediverse has a solid range, but it skews towards news, which is important, but also dominates, drowning out more original posts.
However with Fediverse users being used to the non algorithmic nature, boosting occurs more often, not to mention active discussions on posts not made by bigger posts.
I get it when people say that they've tried Mastodon but couldn't make it work. Mastodon's greatest value, can only be found if you put in a lot of effort to find a community.
