Strand
Black volcanic sand, clean #Icelandic waves.
Part of the "endless black beach" as seen from Dyrhólæy lighthouse.

10am on a dismal day in September. The Westfjords of #Iceland can be a difficult place to travel when it rains constantly; a lot of the roads are gravel and the potholes quickly fill with water.
Squelching towards Patreksfjörður, I glanced in the wing mirror back towards Ósafjörður at the end of the fjord, and was rewarded with these gorgeous sunbeams.
The bright hope of a better day to come.

Geyser Gazers
Haukadalur is a 6 km² / 2.3 mi² geothermal field frequently called #Geysir, although this is actually the name of just one of the 40+ features in this impressive valley.
This shot is of Strokkur, which typically erupts every 6-10 minutes to a height of 15-20 metres / 50-65 feet, although it can sometimes reach up to 40m / 130ft.
The word "geyser" comes from the Old Norse "geysa" meaning "to gush."
