Bass

The Bass Rock is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of #Scotland. Approximately 2 km (1 mi) offshore, and 5 km (3 mi) north-east of North Berwick, it is a steep-sided volcanic plug, 107 m (351 ft) at its highest point, and is home to a huge colony of gannets.

At high zoom, the true density of the bird colony is obvious.

The more horizontal ledges of the island are painted white by guano and the overflow has almost completely covered the vertical faces. Snow Eggs

A beautiful day in Höfn, and the sunlight casts shadows across the mountain faces.

And the title? Our little joke. The first time we saw the white plastic-wrapped bales of winter fodder, we decided that they must be snow waiting to hatch!

Háitindur¹ (892 m/2926 ft) and Skálatindur (532 m/1745 ft) in Hornafjörður, south-eastern #Iceland. The little waterfall is Bergárfoss, also known as Mígandisfoss.

Riding The Ice Boat

Crossing the Fjallsárlón¹ glacial lagoon towards the calving snout of Fjallsjökull glacier, the rippling ice dropping slowly to meet the water. We didn't approach much closer than this to the undulating 5 to 15 metre (15-50ft) vertical face due to the risk of collapse.

A colour photo taken from the surface of a body of turquoise-grey water. In the near distance is a rippled ice surface, cracked and crevassed. The ice is faintly turquoise, particularly in the depths. On the left is a mountain flank supporting one side of the ice. At the water's edge, the ice has an upright slab face where cracks have separated the glacier into chunks which have then fallen into the lagoon as icebergs. Several of them are floating between the viewpoint and the ice-front.
