This is a night time, grungy, black and white photo in landscape format looking along a wooden pier lined with street lights that converge into the distance. The Embarcadero, San Francisco (2012).

The camera is about half a metre above the weathered and rough wooden planks that lay at right angles to the lens. The lighting above exaggerates the knurled and uneven texture of the well worn wooden surface. At the edges of the pier are two parallel rows of ornate, black metal railings. Spaced every three or four metres are dark metal street lights that are about three or so metres tall. Each street light is topped with a lantern that radiates outwards eight petal-like rays. Arranged along the edges are numerous park benches plus the odd large litter bin. Both the railings and street lights while in reality are parallel: in the image converge together with increasing distance. Above and to the sides of the scene is a pitch black and featureless sky.
