A brown-toned, monochrome photograph of a driveway wedged between two tall buildings in downtown San Francisco. Taken with an ultrawide lens, there's interesting distortion in the photograph as the buildings bend inward overhead while reaching out on the sides to wrap around the photographer. Anyway, what you see here is a driveway dropping down into a basement level parking lot. There are large signs on the left, overhead, and further down the driveway, with arrows, announcing Public Parking with monthly rates available. Higher up on the left wall of one of the buildings, there's an old ghost sign for Victoria or Victorian... not sure. Also overhead, there's a narrow slice of sky visible, glaring while iit casts difuse light onto the driveway below. Not counting Google Streetview, this is possibly the first photograph ever taken of this parking lot entry. I am proud.

Step in Time for #spookysaturday

When I was a kid I was loaned a book by a family friend. In it were all things paranormal and I remember being fascinated with the ghost photos. The one that scared me the most was 'The Spectre of Newby Church', still is a bit unsettling to be honest.
So, this photo is a little bit of a love-letter to the paranormal and to Jack, who loaned me the book. He's no longer with us but his memory lives on. ♥️ (And it wasn't spontaneous combustion as the book would have led me to believe, I really thought adults were going up in flames left right and centre all over the shop) ✨

An abandoned pottery factory, somewhere in #France

This small French #pottery works thrived for decades. It remained modest, while competitors expanded and modernised. While this gives the ruins a certain quaint charm, it was certainly a major factor in their closure!

Inside, the upper floors have long rows of wooden racks stacked with hundreds of moulds. Heavy pieces were once moved on wooden carts along a rail system.

Came to diaspora when G+ closed years ago, then the instance closed and I moved to diasporasocial,net
That server was disconnected days ago. All of this week it shows as Error 500, with no other information, and no heads up from the admins. A friend here suggested I join. Now I have to figure out how to regain content, and contacts.

I have been a photographer (never a professional) for over 40 years. Now retired from a long career in IT, am devoting most of my time to travel and photography.

Will post more when I regain contacts, and figure out how to connect in diaspora again.

“Saitenweise” / String by string

Not the best-quality photo, but a memory of an amazing NYC concert by the Gambian musician Sona Jobarteh — the first woman from a West African griot family to professionally play the kora, a 21-stringed instrument with a calabash gourd body. The skill is usually passed down from father to son and is reserved for prominent griots (master storytellers and keepers of oral tradition). She did her lineage proud.
