A photography trick I learned a while ago is every time I think it’s time to go, I tell myself to give it another ten minutes. I keep repeating this every time I think about leaving until I lose the light, my subject buggers off or I really have to go. I took this shot after the 4th “time to go” this morning.

Juniperus osteosperma (Utah juniper). I love these little natural bonsai trees I found on this mesa top. They're literally all over the place. It's an elfin forest! Utah junipers generally grow to ~15 feet and can live up to a 1,000 years. This specimen, growing from a crack in the sandstone, is only ~3 feet tall. Guessing by its appearance and the size of the trunk it could be 300-400 years old or maybe more!
