We're standing back in the darkness looking onto an illuminated patch in front of a cluster of small businesses. In the immediate foreground right, we see a shiny, black, compact SUV whose sides and windows reflect the downstreet light with a warped, shimmering fidelity. On the left, a little farther down, we see a sidewalk tree in silhouette, a telecom line slanting sideways across the frame in front of it. The topography of the sidewalk is revealed the shine and shadow of the reflect glow. Some young men sit at a green plastic table on matching low stools in front of a sign advertising a crab and mantis shrimp rice vermicelli soup, shrimp fried rice, and glass noodles tossed with seafood. Farther yet, beyond assorted parked bikes, is another fish vermicelli restaurant where several wait for takeaway orders.
