Queen Of Icelandic Mountains

This is Herðubreið, literally "broad-shouldered," a steep-sided volcano formed when lava erupted through thick ice.
Tuyas like this are rare worldwide, only found in areas covered by glaciers and with active volcanism at the same time.

At 1,682 meters (5518’) Herðubreið is the 6th tallest peak in Iceland and is called the "national mountain."

A photo of a landscape under a clear sky. The foreground is withered brown grassland, patches of hard frost are visible in the deep shadows. In the distance is an unusual mountain. It has a pointed summit which tapers slightly to form a table top. From there the shoulders of the peak are steep, gradually widening in a soft curve to ground level. There's a tuft of bearded cloud sitting on the top. Other mountains can be seen in the distance, fading with tonal perspective in the deep cold. It's very beautiful.
