👉My question would be a central one to all Fediverse users:
how about content migration and local backup, in the case of account cancellation etc? 👈

in reply to HistoPol (#HP) 🏴 🇺🇸 🏴

@HistoPol you could, of course, just post a link with your account with a intro and hashtags.

I have in the past experimented with automating WordPress posts.

It becomes painful to interact with people responding because of account switching, it spams long prose to the fediverse (hopefully that flgot fixed over the years?), and some users such as myself don't like long posts in our timelines. I mute them.

Just posting a link with some hashtags works.

Everyone's mileage varies.

Absolutely, through I'd call it "use case".

I write (and boost) quite a bit myself, but (so far) only on the #Fediverse.

Quite a few friends and followers have asked me, why I don't have my own ("real") #blog.

In my own articles/threads/commentaries, I mostly have issues with a mere 500k. I often write about complex poltical and historical events, so "dumbing it down" to the ludcrious 500k limit is...

...not an option.
Despite using #Fedilab for threads myself, it is a tedious process.
(Un)traceability is a big issue for me, so no paid account will ever really cut it for me (follow the money...)

@HistoPol I suppose it's a style issue.

If it's over 500 for me, it takes real estate from me and makes me have to scroll scroll scroll past it so I generally mute users that post like that.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong.
It's just what I do.

It's rare for me to find something THAT interesting in a feed. Very rare.

For me, the Fediverse is a way to find things, not to read things. But I am only one.

Here's an example of how I post my content:

@knowprose

Interesting. Yes, SMS, messengers and SM have all contributed to a reduction in attention span, granted.

But you know, I'm often amazed how many people Favorite the 3rd or the 5th (e.g.) post in a thread, but not earlier or later ones.
Everyone has different attention triggers, I'd say...

//

BTW: I did like the article (though not the unrelated AI image.--it portrays harmony, not a division ;))

in reply to HistoPol (#HP) 🏴 🇺🇸 🏴

@HistoPol well, I suppose when you see a beach you don't see the boundaries interacting. Shifting. Constant churning. A sunset displays that more.

Shifting.

So you say unrelated. I disagree.

And...

As far as favorites and all of that... that's not why I write. My reward is externalities my thought.

Some people get it, some people don't.

*shrugs*

I don't force the issue.

Good luck.

in reply to Taran Rampersad

@knowprose

Well, I can follow your point, but I see a different image within my "inner eye", somewhat more like this one...

...but then, a picture is but a picture, the content is, what really matters.

in reply to HistoPol (#HP) 🏴 🇺🇸 🏴

@HistoPol well, if you're using generative ai for images like that, you're definitely looking at an audience that likes that sort of stuff.

And I can say pretty confidently that in my circles, that's more offensive than long posts for a variety of reasons.

I believe we're done? Because it's clear we don't see eye to eye, and I don't need to win or lose.

You do you. I'll do me.

in reply to Taran Rampersad

@knowprose

I can see your audience's issues with AI generated content. I was not suggesting that you do so.
As I am not artist, I need to use that kind of thing if I need to explain something "graphically." I have hardly ever used it for posts myself. However, a post with some kind of image has several times the reach than the same one without one. I like (political) cartoons, as they get the point across rather well. Anyway,
thanks for remind me of PKD's famous "speech," BTW.
