How did the Enlightenment fail to stop two world wars, two nuclear bombings, the Holocaust, new wars, Trump being elected twice, and the collapse of international law?

The 1700s saw a lot more respect for science and rationality, and less respect for religion and superstition. Then came the 1800s and the Romantic Movement in music, painting, and literature. Folklore, fantasy "the occult," and mythology came roaring back. The emphasis became emotion, not reasoning.
I blame Romanticism, in part, at least, for Nazism. It's not the Enlightenment that caused fascism (as the Dialektik der Aufklärung people thought), it's the reaction against the Enlightenment that caused it.
I grew up in the Space Age, when probes started to be sent out to explore this solar system. Even humans left the Earth for the moon.
Once again, the pendulum swung back, and we got the Age of Aquarius. Aquarius: that's astrology bullshit. Lots of people think astrology is amusing and harmless, but it's really a system of irrational prejudice that prejudges people based on when they're born. That's even worse than prejudging people based on appearance! It's hateful!

A few years ago there was an episode of The Orville that finally dealt with this. In the episode the Orville travels to a planet where people born in a certain month have to spend their whole lives in concentration camps, simply because of when they were born.
The king of the UK just arrived here in the US. He is respected, not because of what he has accomplished, which is not impressive, but because of who his parents were.
President Trump wants to abolish birthright citizenship because he thinks people should be treated differently depending on who their parents were.
Treating people differently depending on who their parents were is the definition of racism.
Now, in the Age of Trump, we have a health secretary who doesn't believe that infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms. npr.org/sections/shots-health-…
There are people who think that birds are spy machines watching and listening to us. birdsarentreal.com/
And, of course, the flat-earthers. theflatearthsociety.org/
This kind of irrationality is what Trumpism is all about. Superstition, religion, race theories, fear of homosexuals, ethnic cleansing, etc.
