For a variety of reasons, some people are naturally inclined toward authoritarian epistemology.

WWII taught conservative ppl not to support far-right parties. Society should have incorporated anti-fascism as a core feature afterwards. It did not. We are living in that mistake.

Politics is cognition at scale. People are not inherently rational actors because meaning is not static or inherent, it is enacted.

Truth must be painstakingly taught in order to exist.

Like many ex-fundamentalists, my path out was through better understanding the very text that I had supposedly been reading all my life. I was warned that “the Devil knows the Bible better than you do.” The Devil, it turns out, can engage in basic critical analysis, and so has a richer appreciation of ancient literature than those who uncritically worship its surface form seen from a strange angle.
