Scots told to wear face mask if you feel ill

Scots advised to wear face #masks & stay away from #work, #school, #hospitals until they are better as flu cases across the country continue to rise

Public #Health #Scotland has advised anyone with flu symptoms to stay away from public settings and to wear face masks in high-risk parts of hospitals. Some #NHS trusts have also asked anyone with flu symptoms to avoid visiting hospitals entirely.

My gorse photos for #YearOfGorse 2025

12 months of trying to take a photo of flowering gorse each month for a year. It's been good fun. The middle months were pretty tricky. First time I've found flowering gorse just on walks from my house in Aberdeenshire Scotland for each month of a full year.

Day 3 and I'm sticking with the Scottish theme, with this EXCELLENT Highland Cow in Glen Nevis, in the process of being decorated for Christmas. It's hard to tell, but I assure you the coo is happy about it. Consent is important in the world of festive bling, as with all things.

Winging it a bit (again) today, but can't miss the deadline on day 2 so have a slightly unorthodox ski jump from Friend at Creag Dubh, taking a leap towards the sprawling splendour of Rannoch Moor.

If you can't attend my event tomorrow (1st December) at University of Glasgow, it's available to live stream at the link below

uofglasgow.zoom.us/j/848479852…

It's going to be an interesting and lively conversation about my book Drystone - A Life Rebuilt, writing, publishing, life. Chaired by the brilliant Simon Kövesi. 1pm start.

I believe you can also ask questions vie the livestream.

#UK question: what is the difference between Civil Marriage and Civil Partnership in the UK (more specifically #Scotland if it changes anything)? Why would you choose one over the other? Is it just that "civil marriage" is more likely to get recognised internationally?

I can't seem to find any clear info on this online..
Edit:

  • this Reddit thread gives some info, but mostly unsourced. In this one someone summarised the England & Wales rules.
  • this page from what seems to be a legal firm is quite useful and focuses on Scottish law.

Basically it seems that the few legal differences are inconsequential.

The view east from the top of (in our opinion) Scotland's best mountain, Suilven, inland from Lochinver on the west coast of Sutherland. Just 2,389ft high, the name is said to come from the Norse for "Pillar Mountain". More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/loc…

Red Squirrel

With snow falling at home, I headed to the red squirrel woodland hide, where more had already settled.

This male helped me create some new Christmas card images!

Magical.

Email me if you'd like to book a day at this woodland.

On Rose Street in #Edinburgh, there are a LOT of pubs. Took a few pictures of some in the daytime. We didn't go to any on this particular street, but we did go to a few near the hotel, and we also did the tour at the Johnnie Walker place - I recommend it, even if you don't care for whisky (nobody's perfect). Plus the tour includes 3 drinks :) #Scotland

After Edinburgh was #Glasgow. What a wonderful city - I really enjoyed it, and it is such a short train ride from Edinburgh. The park along the river is beautiful, and there are plenty of pedestrian-only thoroughfares in the central part of town. #Scotland

Lincluden Abbey, founded by Uchtred, son of Fergus of Galloway, in the 12th C. It is said to be home to two apparitions, one of a nun and another of a green lady.

In #Edinburg there is a beautiful walk along the Water of Leith - it is quiet, and set down in a valley near the main part of the city. It briefly feels like you've left the city environment completely. Many of the buildings along this area are old and fascinating. #Scotland

Some pics from around the castle. It was a long walk up the Royal Mile. I had a hard time not buying a ton of tweed…if I weren't flying without checked bags I would have come home with a jacket and waistcoat. #Scotland #Edinburgh

In 1850, a storm exposed a hidden village on Scotland’s coast. It was Skara Brae, a 5,000 year-old Neolithic settlement where around 100 people once lived. It is one of Europe’s oldest and best-preserved prehistoric sites.
