A mindblowing set of images of what the flood in #Valencia looks like from space - images of the same region from 8 and 30 October (I've been to the area, this is scary):

1. If you think #valencia is out of the woods, think again. The cut-off low that pulls humid air from over the meditteranean across the mountains north of Valencia is not done yet. In the coming 2 days the @kachelmannwetter multimodel ensemble predicts up to 177 mm of extra rain in the region of #castellon .

Not only #Spain but the entire #EU will have to have a difficult conversation on how we'll prepare us for #weather #disaster amplified by #ClimateChange

A thread.

Today is #Valencia. Tomorrow may be any region in any other place of the planet. We need decisive, bold, immediate action to stop #climatechange No matter how difficult or complicated the solution may seem. Stop prioritizing corporate profits, start prioritizing human lives.

When you see the apocalyptic scenes of the floods in Valencia, Spain, please also remember that in Spain, climate activists are treated as terrorists for trying to raise awareness about climate change.
#Valencia #ClimateChange

"Valencia's regional government admitted that it had only sent out a text message warning residents of the impending catastrophe at 8:12 PM, eight hours after the first floods were reported, and 10 hours after Spain’s AEMET issued an alert highlighting “extreme danger” across the region."

Disasters like this will keep happening because we are NOT ready. Nearly 100 lives lost because the early warning system failed.

Everyone knew this and acted accordingly to urgently stop further #globalwarming.

Just went and geolocated this picture for an after climate-disaster/before climate-disaster look on Google Maps. Map link below, the main highway V-30, that runs around the south side of the City of Valencia alonside the, often dry, riverbed of the Turia river.

Jeff Berardelli posted an explanation for Tuesday's torrential rain in Spain. A blocking kept the low in place and dump all the water in one place.
https://nitter.poast.org/WeatherProf/status/1851422338807402829

"Once again Europe has found itself a victim of severe blocking, resulting in 13” of rain in just 4 hours with devastating flooding!
Below you can see the storm cut off from steering stuck in between blocking in all directions."

13 inches in 4 hours = 355mm of rain...

Devastating scenes of piled-up cars in #Valencia, #Spain today after yesterday’s historic flooding. A year’s worth of rain fell in a few hours with a peak of 500mm.
