*Lady Kelp* is an in-camera double exposure on Ilford FP4+ film

While wandering on the Atlantic coast seaside to find mineral textures, I stumbled upon this clump of kelp on the beach. I wasn't so sure about what it would convey, but Nolwenn and I decided to do a pure silhouette with it, trying to follow the curves, and I think it really works...

I watched They Live - at least most of it. I got tired at the end.

It's a slow movie! When he gets the glasses he keeps putting them on and off for about 20 minutes. Then he has a fight with his friend from work for about 20 minutes.

I'm like: Just get on with it!

Disappointing.

Also the main character should have been Keith David who is a better actor and better looking than the bland mullet muscle man they got.

I also get the feeling it inspired 90% of anti-capitalists

If you're a Toni Morrison fan, "Pieces I Am" is a must-see doc. Thought it was much better than the James Baldwin doc that got so much more acclaim. #bookstodon #Film #Documentary

It's easy to project human emotions on nature, and of course when I saw this image amongst my negatives, I immediately thought of how trees must feel about us and the way we ravage our environment. Maybe Tolkien was more of a visionary than we give him credit for?

This also is very freakin' cool!

I now have worked on seaside mineral textures for a few sessions, and I know it works. I still find the balancing of texture and model to be a bit more delicate than with plant textures, but I'm starting to get a feel for it. This session with Nolwenn was really cool and yielded great results, but perhaps my favourite image is this one. The blend really gives the feeling of a statue wheathering the test of time.

Image of the day is *Freedom #1*, an in-camera double exposure on film. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For some time now I have been pondering about using written text as texture. I did a session with a couple of models to try various concepts and while I generally think that it works, it also raises the important question of meaning. It will definitely require more work to get to something effective, but in the meantime, I really like a few of the images which I'll share. This is one of my favourite, the texture being a bunch of issues of an old French communist newspaper called "La Liberté"

Image of the day is *Joined at the Waist*, an in-camera double exposure on film. I am *particularly* proud of this one...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As I try to conceptualise these superpositions that are part of the "one and more" concept, I think about parts of the body that can be seen to join. I wasn't sure it would work at the waist, but to my surprise, it did. I'm really proud of this image, because there's so much that can go wrong in the lighting, the framing and the posture. I don't know that I'll ever get another one right, but at least I've got this one!

Someone yesterday remarked that female bodies blended into trees was quite a powerful metaphor, but I think male bodies work as well! During the session we did with François, two really good images came out of the barks, and this is one of them. I really like the seemingly aloof expression that reminds me of old religious

Barks are really the best textures for these emergence images, although I sometimes feel like I'm producing the same image over and over again. In the end, the expression of the model is where the differences lie, for the most part. This one is very peaceful, which is why I like it, I think.

Image of the day is *Well-Armed*, an in-camera double exposure on film.

I'm continuing my explorations of multiple exposures of a single model in a project I have tentatively called "one and more". This may look like a photoshop job but it's not, it's a double exposure in camera. It's all down to very selective lighting, and each of these images requires dozens of trials and a lot of time in the studio. Laura is a real trooper on these sessions, patient and always switched on. More to share later in the week.
