Tech companies like Microsoft and Meta shared names of #Dutch civil servants and scientists with the US senate commission that investigates "tech censorship".

Dutch secretary of state says that stopping to work with American tech companies on the short term is not possible.

This is nonsense. Also people have been trying to put digital independence on the agenda for years, without much success, unfortunately.

Palantir should have no place in the UK's digital systems.

The government must completely break our dependency on US tech firms.

It'll deliver better value for money and protect our national security from foreign interference.

Invest in open source, not Trumpian tech bros!

London Mayor Sadiq Khan shows Palantir the door 🚪

This decision recognises that Big Tech has been grifting the UK for years, by locking us into their exclusive products, jacking up the fees and exporting profits.

The future is open source, NOT shady US spyware companies.

It's time for Digital Sovereignty 🌱

New from me: France is done with US big tech companies—arguably its moving away from American tech faster than other countries in Europe

The French government has built its own replacement for Google Docs/Microsoft Office. Cities, including Lyon, are moving to Linux and other tech. Open source is at the center of their efforts.

When your data touches a US-owned platform, it falls under US law — no matter where in Europe you are.

The CLOUD Act, surveillance capitalism, AI tools reading your emails… Europe's dependence on US tech has become a sovereignty crisis.

We've written about what's at stake and what Europe is doing about it.

🇪🇺 We signed the open letter calling for an Open Source First approach in Europe.

The question public institutions should ask first is simple:

🤔 Is there already a qualified open-source solution that does the job?

If yes, it should be seriously considered before creating new dependencies.

That is how digital sovereignty becomes real.

Germany snubs #Palantir, chooses French supplier for internal intelligence agency

In all seriousness, choosing Palantir, funded by antidemocratic billionaires to defend German democracy would have been madness. #digitalsovereignty

Ursula von der Leyen has halted a previously planned multibillion-euro fine against Google at the last minute. This is reported by both the Handelsblatt and Capitol Forum. In an open letter released today, more than 30 organizations including @rebalance_now are calling on the Commission President to impose the fine promptly and thus effectively enforce the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Updated! We are now up to 20 entries in my European digital sovereignty tracker. New examples of orgs ditching US tech include media entities, the Dutch National Bank, and open source sewing software.

Thanks to everyone who has sent me examples, please do keep them coming if there are others I am missing!

There's a handful that I am still reviewing and I'm also considering in the next update including new categories (political declarations, funding, projects such as Euro-Office, etc)

Dutch civil servant fired because he spoke up against the takeover of #Solvinity that provides the #DigiD service. DigiD is the central system that is used in the #Netherlands to log in into official government and related services.

Solvinity, the company hosting DigiD will probably be taken over by Kyndryl, a US company. Putting the login functionality of the Dutch official digital services under US #jurisdiction.

The UK isn’t a vassal state of America.

Yet Trump wants to punish us over a digital services tax.

This can be resolved by ditching US Big Tech from our digital infrastructure.

We should invest in open source to promote economic growth through greater innovation and a more competitive tech sector.
