Okay, here's a cracker for #ThrowbackThursday - this photo was taken in 1993 by an old buddy Pete MacDonald from Findochty on the Moray Coast. I was helping him repair his old boat's even older diesel engine (hence the manky overalls) when we got word that a young dolphin had been trapped and drowned in a poaching net. We recovered the young dolphin who, only 5 years old was around 9 feet in length. Me beside the dolphin for scale (I'm 6 feet). #Bycatch #Dolphin #Nature

The dolphin is over 9 feet in length although not fully grown, as an adult these northerly Bottlenose dolphin can reach 13 feet in length and weigh a third of a ton. The dolphin had tragically drowned after being trapped in a salmon poaching net on the Moray Firth coast.

For #ThrowbackThursday...

Yesterday's picture of a container ship sailing through the Golden Gate channel reminded me of a picture I took way back in 2007. I had just gotten my first DSLR, the Pentax K10D... and for a few months I started rushing around town like Jimmy Olsen, photographing every event, apartment fire, marathon, gay bar opening, and person dressed like a superhero at the Bay to Breakers race.

Anyway, this is what I photographed on Sunday, February 4th, 2007, from Crissy Field.

And this is what the newspapers excitedly reported that day:

A giant cruise liner enters the San Francisco Bay, surrounded by dozens of small boats. A helicopter flies overhead. Water from fire boats greets the ship. And people line up on the shore, watching the arrival with great interest. It was so exciting 🙄 Monochrome, because history always looks more historical when things are photographed in black and white.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I was going through my old friend Ian's journals and photos.

While Ian died in1999, there are two people alive who still remember him (myself and a mutual friend in Florida).

Anyway, I've saved a handful of Ian's photos from his journals. These 3 were labeled DIRIGIBLE LOS ANGELES IN PANAMA, Feb 27, 1928.

I think Ian (edit: didn't) take them - he was in Panama then and all the other photos from that time are of Ian and his friends and military companions down there - but it likely he acquired these airship photos from a vendor.

I think they are really cool.
