The snow trickles down to earth so softly
Each individual flake
so inconspicuous when each on its own
But when gathered together
on the earth
A picture emerges that changes everything
Covers everything
in white innocence
for a brief moment

Many people have told me how they like to read the opening few paragraphs of books before buying.
So, here is the opening to mine, 'Drystone - A Life Rebuilt' which will be available for pre-order early 2025 and then released in August.
I'm a first time author, so shares mean a lot and I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

Where do you put your novels? I currently host mine on Tapas, but I don't like how it keeps spamming me with notifications I don't care about
I saw it in the bookshop window, brightly lit in the early morning gloom.
I *had* to tell Clive.
I ran out of town and danced, elated, around bushes across the meadows, to the tree.
Clive was there, cross-legged, his back against the trunk, facing away to where the sun would soon rise.
"Clive! My book's out!"
Clive lowered his booklight, turned to me and smiled.
"And quite a good book it is."

This world can often make living in it so difficult
A world
that worships the privileged
Condemns the poor
Defends injustice
Stokes hatred
Thinks that weakness cannot also be strength
Doesn't want to give hope to the hopeless
and often I see that it just doesn't get better, despite so many efforts and good people
I really can't understand it sometimes

"a tale that cleverly uses the reader’s expectations to make the drama more intense. We are used to Dan being the investigator and sorting things out using his intelligence, strength and friends ... this time it feels Dan and his allies are the ones needing rescuing. "

I'm looking for resources for getting started with writing fiction. Blogs or books about the process of writing, hallmarks of good or bad writing.

Matt on Professional Tools
Matt contends that professional tools need 3 things:
Reliability
Predictability
Flexibility
This is why I stick with NeoVim. It just works the way it's supposed to work all the time and doesn't update with new tools (like some AI shit) because the company thinks it needs to get AI into its tools.
Finally, I can create any workflow I want.

Over on the blog today, a guest post. I’ve shared in thoughtful panel discussions with Andrew Knighton at conventions, as well as more informal conversations. I am very pleased to share his article on the relationships between a character’s job of work and various aspects of a story.
I am very much looking forward to reading Andrew’s new novel, The Executioner’s Blade, when I get home from our travels.
