The issue with the #Chuffed campaigns on #GazaVerified over-reporting total amounts in case of failed payments has now been fixed.

It’s still a big fluke on Chuffed’s side (they keep returning Unconfirmed transactions on their API for some reason), which forced me to implement some complex (and 429-prone) look-back reconciliation logic on each round of scraping, which in turn means that it may take a bit longer for Chuffed donations to be archived if we hit cool-down windows.

But I’ve been monitoring the situation since yesterday night and it seems that things are stable now - no suspicious duplicate transactions.

Please let me know if you spot any recent mistakes.

Note that the fix is not retroactive and many duplicate donations still exist on the database. It’ll take me a while to clean them all up.

Just got these messages from @seengoals@mastodon.social, one of the members of Gaza Verified, basically accusing me of running a fundraiser for Gaza and keeping the proceeds (I have no fundraiser on any fundraising site anywhere) and extorting me to share his fundraiser or he’ll apparently go public with it.

So here’s what’s going to happening instead: Nabil has been removed Gaza Verified (gaza-verified.org/warning/@see…) and I would urge caution in your dealings with him and that account in the future.

@staff, I would like to ask, when you have time, if you could please update his profile so the verified badge no longer appears as the verified status doesn’t automatically update once added.

For the rest of our Gaza Verified family, I am sorry for this unpleasantness but we will not entertain threats or extortion towards any of our volunteers.

We have closed video verification sign-ups for the time being as we have a backlog of calls that fill February and @joynewacc has started an internship for her university which means she can only help out on Fridays instead of during weekdays. So we will be rescheduling the existing calls to fit her new availability.

(She is in Gaza and is a volunteer who is facing the same ongoing genocide that the people she’s trying to help are. You can support her fundraiser at chuffed.org/project/evacuate-j…).

We also have plans to evolve how verifications happen so that our existing group of verified families will be able to verify people they know and trust going forward so there will be an alternative to the video verification. We’ll update you when that’s ready. Going forward, we hope that this will be an initiative driven by Palestinians for Palestinians.
