My absolute favourite natural phenomenon (up with sunlight glittering on waves) is what in Japanese is called "KOMOREBI". It literally means sunlight (bi) leaking through (more) trees (ko). To me, it is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and grounding activities to just watch these sunspots dancing. Or even when there is no wind and the leaves just paint beautiful pictures of light and shadow. So of course, I have hundreds of photos and videos of fantastic moments of komorebi saved on my phone.
I feel so blessed and lucky that I got to see and capture an ECLIPSE version of it today. So special and so beautiful. I will remember this 💖🥹

It may only have been 90% partial, but we had a good time watching the eclipse with many locals atop the 40 metre Teltschikturm at 530 metres up in the Odenwald. Stunning location.
The Sun was still partly eclipsed as it set over Mannheim & the Pfalz across the Rhine Valley.
Did a live radio with LBC from up there & a long piece with BBC News TV when I got home.
Next year totality with the family in Spain (again), I hope.
But today, in approximately 3 hours, time and space will align so perfectly that a tiny ball of rock will begin to shade another ball of rock from the light of a nuclear furnace 400 times its size.
The shadow of the tiny ball will sweep in an arc across the bigger ball, in some places COMPLETELY BLOCKING THE LIGHT of the life-giving furnace for over a minute!!!
And I will be standing in one of those places to witness it! So excited.

Three ways to watch the solar eclipse safely without glasses
With some shops running out of stock, it may be too late to buy eclipse glasses - but you can still safely watch the spectacle using some household items.George Sandeman (BBC News)
