So, it's due to the persistence of one women from Glasgow, and the now-infamous deceased snail, that we now have many of the statutes which help protect us from negligence to this day.

This statue, called Dear Duty, honours May Donoghue's persistence ans was created by Mandy McIntosh. It was erected in 2018 on Wellmeadow Street in Paisley where the cafe where she bought the fateful bottle of ginger beer once stood.

Women have helped change the world in many different ways, but possibly the strangest involved a woman from Glasgow named May Donoghue and a dead snail. In August 1928, she travelled to the nearby town of Paisley where she bought a bottle of ginger beer which caused her to become rather ill due to the fact it contained the remains of a decaying mollusc.

Many know Ada Lovelace, but too few know about women like Mary Allen Wilkes, who wrote most of the software for the first "personal" computer—the LINC.

Here are stories of modern and historical women in tech and digital rights that inspire us. How many did you already know? #InternationalWomensDay

This #InternationalWomensDay, think of the #women #drone #pilots of #Ukraine

Like their great grandmothers, the Night Witches. Without parachutes. Cutting their engines and silently bombing Nazis in pitch black

Women like Yevhenia "Furia," 20, a reconnaissance drone pilot

Dasha "Galactica," 24, a first-person view drone pilot

How much death have they had to be involved in?

And for what?

The folly of one narcissistic old man, #Putin

🌷 Happy Women's Day! Meet Minna Canth. Yes, pronounced almost like that other word. And honestly? Perfect. She gave the patriarchy exactly the kind of energy it deserved since 1844.

Finland's original feminist and playwright, she fought for women's and workers' rights when most people thought a woman's biggest choice was which apron to wear. Her plays were so sharp they made the establishment sweat. She was the first Finnish woman to have her own flag day (March 19th).

"Kun naiset ovat suljetut riveistä pois, on silloin toinen puoli ihmiskuntaa lamassa, ja luonnollisesti toinenkin puoli semmoisesta epäsuhtaisesta tilasta kärsii."

Roughly translated as: "When women are left out of the ranks, half of humanity is held back, and naturally, the other half suffers from this imbalance."
– Minna Canth, 1844-1897

It's International Women's Day which seems like a good time to point out that there have been ZERO investigations against the men of the #Epstein list.

Zero.

The victims deserve justice!

I don't need roses, flowers, and "happy day" wishes. I need #equalRights, #equalPay, and a change of our (again) hyperpatriarchal societies. Not only on paper but in life. The backlash we experience since our fights in the 1970/80s, makes me angry, not happy. And it should be clear that #feminism includes the fight for #transRights and those for #LGBTQ. #Democracy must live #diversity. Authoritarians treat us as enemies. Let's stand together!

It's International Women's Day, so when you see people zooming by on electric scooters, I remember Lady Norman and her autoped. She was a suffragist who insisted on being mobile without manly "protection" :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priscill…

(UPDATE: Yes, many men in the replies. The autoped used a combustion engine, I know. My post is however NOT about the autoped, it's about the woman standing on it. I know, that's really hard for some of you to deal with. :)

A reminder on International Women's Day that trans women are women, and that true feminism is intersectional.
