I couldn't think of a better place where to take a portrait with my new, awesome @Mastodon t-shirt that reads: "I write #AltText" : the Louvre Museum, in front of the painting "The Battle of David and Goliath" by Daniele da Volterra.

And may I share an ambitious goal with you?

I want to start advocating for the Louvre Museum to join the Fediverse (they're currently on all Big Tech social platforms only). Let's see what I can do 🤗

Lisa Melton reshared this.

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

It's a must everyone to cut the chains with Big Tech and regain sovereignty away from 1 person structure.

Good luck.

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

I love your t-shirt and I am absolutely sure you're the most relevant person to succeed in this mission 😀

@Mastodon

in reply to Emeline Parizel

@emeline haha thanks Emeline 🥰 I joined the "Amis du Louvre" and I could actually go to their general assemblies... and advocate for this IRL 🤗
in reply to Joannes 🌙

@amministratore I try 😅

If by the end of 2026 the European Commission has the link to their Mastodon account on their homepage... and the Louvre joins the Fediverse, I know it would have been a very good year

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

good luck and may the Lord be by your side 🙏🏼

I was thinking Fedi's vibe is often more "Judith and Holofernes".
(as a small preview, that's what I thought the painting was)
in reply to Robert Belton

@shiawase yes but it was already a mission to snap this pic because (1) HUGE crowds (2) our five-year-old waiting patiently next to me (I cropped her out) while my husband took this pic 😅
in reply to Andy Carolan

@andycarolan it really is. I just joined their membership program so I can visit ALL YEAR FOR FREE... my daughter too because people 18 and under have free entry. I look forward to taking her there regularly 🥰
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Membership is definitely worth it if you visit regularly! Nice to hear that under 18s get to visit for free... especially for the education value!
in reply to Andy Carolan

@andycarolan I joined because the last time I bought tickets to take the little one there she was sick... and tickets are very expensive and non-refundable.

So I thought a membership would be great as no pressure if we have to cancel at the last minute.

Plus: priority access to get in. Last Saturday we skipped a queue with 200 people in front 😅

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Oh it's awful when they miss out because of sickness. We had to abandon a vacation on the second day when my son was sick. Didn't get a refund at all, despite holiday insurance.

Looking at the prices, Louvré appears to be €95 for a solo membership... €150 for two? That's extremely good value if you visit it a few times!

Wow, that line skip must have felt awesome lol

in reply to Andy Carolan

@andycarolan yeah I paid 95 for solo since for my child is free... our 3 tickets cost 22 Euros (for my husband). And indeed, skipping that insane line felt AMAZING!

sorry to hear about your son and that vacation, sigh. despite holiday insurance? what?

Caucasian = either someone from the Caucasus region (not, typically by today's categories, a white person) or a white person under one of a handful extraordinarily racist categories.
You can just say white, if that's a useful detail!

you could tell when and where the next construction phase begins, and where to park the getaway car.

fyi: the getaway car is a '94 fiat panda, thistime

@drbenway awesome!

my 5-year-old (who loves her Plushtodons) is a little frustrated there are no Mastodon t-shirts in children's sizes. She would love one 😅

Pinging @Gargron for this request (I'd promised her I would ask) 🤗

@Gargron
Children are the consumers of tomorrow... early brand loyalty is always good... :o)
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

If anyone can do it you can!: get “the Louvre Museum to join the Fediverse”. Go Elena!! 😁👍

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Is support your attempt 👍

That picture looks like a Peter Jackson Version of the real bible story 😁

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

bring it on. The more big institutions on the fediverse the better I think.
They should be running an instance for them and their staff.
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Great! May they listen to you and learn how to write alt text. 😁
It would be so easy for them to have at least automated content. And hey, they could join that French instance reseauculture.fr/about for #culture and #museums!

@parismusees has already an account. And perhaps @ChristineDebray could be a helpful contact?

@Mastodon

Well, there is already reseauculture.fr/directory Mastodon instance with a bunch of other museums in France. They just have to join the movement !

@RaymondPierreL3 love the tshirt, sadly it’s not available to be shipped to Australia would be great marketing to explain to people why you should use ALT Text. :)
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

We were there just last week! Love the t-shirt, and yes, we should get big institutions like the Louvre onto the fedi. It would make a difference, I think.
in reply to Schroedingers_Cat

@SteveClough I'd like to be optimistic. Once the Louvre is here (not if, but once, wink wink) I'll go on a campaign for Italian museums. Aiming high with the Uffizi in Firenze... Gotta take advantage of the fact I speak both French and Italian, LOL
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

If - sorry once - the Louvre joins, I think others will want to join too. It is considered the premier European museum (not sure I agree, but it is).

So I hope you are successful. I feel that the fedi has a lot of artistic people, who would appreciate some of the great museums across Europe.

in reply to Clu | #RipNatenom 🕯

@moskitokoenig thank you! I'm already compiling a wish list of other museums to reach out to. The Uffizi in Firenze is second on my list
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

What a wonderful idea! It would be so exciting to have Louvre here and showing off some of their wonderful art. 🍀 This would be marvelous! :blobcathappy: :blobcatartist:
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

gods, that painting...is...

...a perfect example of "if it's really old it's gotta be a masterpiece"...kinda painting....

😵‍💫

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Dear Elena, that's a great idea! The #DiDaySupportCommunity is on your side and will push and fav your post so you can show it to Louvre's social media team and make them see how many people would gladly welcome them here!
@Mastodon
in reply to kiki

@kiki thank you so much, I really appreciate! My biggest challenge is that I have ZERO social media accounts on Big Tech platforms so I can't reach the Louvre there. But I will create a splash page on my site with arguments to convince them... and if people who still have accounts on Instagram or Facebook could share that, it would be grand
@kiki
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

@kiki

A Tipp:

Post your Toot to someone, or many, who have a lot of followers in the fediverse and also have an account at one of the BigTechBros sites.

If they will share your post, I would bet they will, you can reach a lot of people at the BigTechDungeons.

@kiki
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Excellent ! Awesome target !! Looking forward to seeing the Louvre on the fediverse. Please let us know how you plan to manage this.
in reply to nathan

@nathan I'm reaching out to existing public institutions on the Fediverse looking for advice about messaging... step by step :catjam:
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

great picture, perfect choice!

@josemurilo@mato.social may be able to help.

he's got the Brazilian Institute for Museums in the Fediverse.

surely the Louvre wouldn't want to be left behind 😉

in reply to Alexandre Oliva

@lxo thank you for the advice Alexandre - obrigada - and hello @josemurilo . I would love to connect about this and get tips from you, if you have any time in the coming weeks
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Hi @_elena! And thanks to @lxo for the link.
As you can imagine, it all starts with #freesoftware, and in our case, #publicpolicy. #Tainacan began as a tool for publishing #digitalcollections and, over 10 years, became part of Latin America’s open cultural digital infrastructure. As a #WordPress plugin, it helped low-budget institutions adopt it easily—and now it’s attracting larger #museums too. Our current focus is bringing digital collections into #theFediverse.

@josemurilo @lxo I'm so impressed by your work Jose! And delighted to see the collaboration with @newsmast and @michael . If you have any tips for me as to how to convince the Louvre Museum to join the Fediverse, I'm all ears
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

hi Elena, I think transparency and preservation are the main arguments. As public institutions the content they create should be available for everyone without barriers. Public content should be in the open web. In my institution we are not here yet (I’m advocating) but we created www.banrepcultural.org/redes where we publish the same content that goes for IG.

@lxo @michael
It would be easy for the Louvre webteam to play with #WordPress & #Tainacan. Once installed the plugin can fastly import collections from different sources, organize the metadata, and pull out amazing different web presentations with WordPress templates adapted to Tainacan. The new Fediverse #curation feature opens the possibility to select directly from the collection and build threads for scheduled publishing on the Fediverse, like that:

Great photo and great idea 💡

I’ve just stocked up with Mastodon merchandise for the summer to sprinkle widely to raise awareness of Mastodon in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and the UK too ❤️
