Atlantic Puffin / Fratercula Arctica.
From a breeding cliff in northern Norway. Puffins are endangered in norway (and the rest of Europe), vulnerable at a global level, and regionally extinct in Sweden.
However at this island, while they’re in heavy decline everywhere else, their numbers have been stable, and even doubled between the 80s and early 00s. Let’s hope we manage to stabilize them everywhere despite climate change and overfishing 🤞🏻

A few of my ocean creatures for #WorldOceanDay. We call this planet Earth but it is more than 70% ocean; the continents and islands are the exception not the rule on what is mainly an ocean planet. The oceans are the biggest biosphere, a huge driver of climate, a major source of food, medicine, life and livelihood for many. 🧵1/n

These birds are endangered in Norway, having seen a decline of over 80% in their population the past decades, due to human activity (taking away their habitat, overfishing, and pollution).
Recently an oil spill affected them at their most important breeding ground in Norway. Many people are willing to volunteer to help these beauties, but the Norwegian government is blocking all rescue and rehabilitation efforts. An absolute shame.
Kristina Brekke (NRK)
