This is Toutou. She’d been at the shelter too long & wasn’t doing well, so they featured her on the local news one night. I was at the shelter when they opened the next morning. A beautiful morning here on the north coast of California. A breeze with some clouds but the sun is shining.
We called my husband at the hospital. I put the call on speaker so Summer could hear his voice. She was fascinated and we were both happy to hear he is feeling better.
He got antibiotics and fluids all night and isn't in pain now. This is all great news.
Summer slept in her usual spot and I curled up next to her last night and we managed to get about six hours of sleep.
Now, we wait to see what the doctor says. Grandkids arrive soon and I will motor off to the hospital.

Yesterday afternoon, we finally started our hike at the southern end of Södra Kungsleden. Beautiful weather for hiking, cool and sunny. No mosquitos at all! The landscape is quite dry, and even the streams drawn in the map carried next to no water, so we had to go on a bit until we found a suitable camp spot with water. Dinner, some tea, then some well-earned quality sleep.

The night got chilly, so we shared the sleeping bag. Today is another sunny day, though, and in our wind-sheltered tent spot it got quite warm fast. A bit more water today, and I even got wet feet for the first time. Gorgeous landscape, a mix of old forest, swamp and rocky heather.

After 31 hours into our 34-hour trip from Stuttgart to Sälen, Mila clearly wants to finally be there. We've had opportunities for brief walks every few hours, but those were always in noisy, paved-over city centers. We only have a bus trip left now! We both look forward to starting the hike! But still, she's so patient. Such a good dog!

Early rise today, after a late night of preparations yesterday. Mila and I spent the day in various trains, starting in Stuttgart. We could stretch our legs a bit in Hamburg, and are now en route to Copenhagen. From there, we will take an overnight train to Stockholm, then a train to Mora. The last bit will be a bus ride to Sälen.

In Sälen, we will start our three-week hike northwards on Södra Kungsleden, the Southern King's Trail, to Storlien. The second half of that is largely the tail end of the route we took as @4feet8paws last year, in reverse, so there will be some familiar sights. Still, it will probably look different in early June than in late September. Looking forward to it!

She ran right up the stairs and was on the job.
Her pal has a high fever today.
Fingers crossed that we can get things under control at home.
We are trying as hard as we can.

Even though it was overcast, cold, and drizzly we needed to get down the hill for a walk. It had been a couple of days of rain, and other distractions, so today was to be the day.
It being super early meant that we would have the trail to ourselves.
It was low tide so mud was everywhere.
Summer was excited so she could hardly contain herself. Even with that she stays close to me and makes sure that I don't fall behind.

A few months ago I mentioned my dog had a shaky leg. Initially the vet prescribed rimadyl and a leg brace. 3 months later, no change and perhaps a bit worse.

New vet - diagnosed as hip displasia (arthritis), took her off the meds and gave her omega 3s.

It’s crazy how much better she’s feeling! So happy.

I might start taking omega 3 myself. 😆

Summer and I were out on the trail very early today. It seems she didn't get enough diving yesterday.
I wish I could share the first few minutes we were walking as there was flocks of birds synchronized formation flying over the marsh ponds.
We were mesmerized.
After that, we got to the business of walking to Summer's swimming spot. I hurried along, and could hear the splash of her first dive before I could see her.
I had a busy schedule today so we only spent an hour but it was a good hour.

A promise is a promise.
Yesterday, I said that if we could, we would go for a walk this morning.
Summer's pal has been two days l now without a fever. So, this morning we tucked him in his recliner with a warm blanket, and cup of hot chocolate, before we left for a quick walk.
It was cold, windy, and early when we got to the trail. Summer wanted to swim, so she headed down the trail away from the ocean.
The wind was blowing and bitter cold but the scenery was beautiful.
We jogged along so we would have more time for swimming at the end.
I think Summer had fun and her pal was happy we went.
