Oh my goodness.
I wanted to let our grandson enjoy his birthday week without having to work at our house. He was hesitant but I told him we had everything under control.
Today, I grabbed the, too tall for me battery weedeater, and attacked the weeds around our raspberry patch like they were weasley politicians.
I worked until both batteries were depleted and my arms felt like jello.
What started out as a smaller project just kept getting bigger and bigger. This happens to me sometimes because I can't leave well enough, well enough.
Summer supervised the work and now she is directing the rest period.
I was going to resume when the batteries charged, but maybe not.
Tomorrow, is install the new front door day and I will need steady arms.

A morning in the life of Summer.
We are all little bit off our game today.
I found that a large jug of liquid laundry detergent had sprung a leak in the laundry room.
What a mess.
Could have been worse.
At least it only spilled about a half gallon of soap. Only...
I blocked the doorway with a hamper so Summer could watch but not help.
I did get a few photos of Summer before and after the laundry soap debacle.
Well.
Now on to take care of the business that I would have gotten to earlier except for the soap that got in the way.

On days when time and circumstances allow the three of us sit in our recliners with hot coffee for an hour to chat. We talk about anything and everything that is of interest past or present. Summer curls up on my lap for her morning massage.
Today my husband's thoughts took him back over fifty years to Vietnam. He told me that for a short time when he arrived in country and he had yet to be sent out in the field he ended up as the ping pong ball partner for a sergeant. I guess new recruits good at ping pong were hard to find. This sergeant decided to keep him around and wrangled him into his unit that was headed to the DMZ.
He spent most of the rest of his military career in combat. He says it was all because of ping pong.
You never know what twist or turn might change your whole life.
He hasn't played ping pong since.

I was late for an early morning appointment in town today.
It was Summer's fault.
She is so darned cute.
Her pal was supposed to be taking his blood pressure when Summer sauntered over to his chair with a ball.
Both of them shifted away from what should be happening and dragged me with them.
The playing began.
The blood pressure readings and my appointment was set aside as I took some blurry photos.
At least everyone had a grin on their chin.
Recliner games start out our day, again.

I regularly toot photos of the flowers Summer and I encounter on our dune walks. I describe the flowers but almost never know their names. We hadn't been introduced.
This morning my daughter and I are taking a class at College of the Redwoods focused on learning the plants native to our coastal dunes.
I told Summer how exciting it will be when I know which plants we aren't stepping on when we walk.
She is not impressed.
Especially when I told her that she has to stay home, because they don't allow dogs in the class.
She doesn't understand.
She will take care of her pal while I'm gone.
I will make it up to her.

I woke up way too early and was as quiet as a mouse. I wanted to let everyone else wake up in their own time.
As soon as Summer picked her head up I asked if she was ready for an adventure.
We let her pal rest in.
It only took a minute to fill up the water bottle and grab our walk ready day pack.
The fog was thick but Summer said no matter and we were off.
The trail to her swimming spot is overgrown but I managed to follow along without too much trouble.
She was one happy dog.

My son's former girlfriend reached out to me today. I hear from his friends periodically. I figured they might drift away as time goes by. He has been gone almost ten years now, and they haven't.
I think because his friends would ask him for advice, or if they needed help, he would often say he would ask his mom. Especially if the ask was beyond him. He was a really good friend to his friends.
Now, I occasionally get questions sometimes framed as what I think my son would've said.
Now, I can offer Summer. I say she does her best to give good advice. So far it's working.
Now, is a hard time for young people to know where to turn.
Summer is as good a choice as many and she is free. Sometimes she advises them to turn to a professional. Sometimes it's an easy fix. If we can help we do.
I might get her a shingle to hang out in front.

Summer's cow sprung a leak.
Just a small hole, on a seam, but a crises for Summer.
She gently brought the cow to me for repair and waited until it was fixed.
Whenever these things happen the concern on her face melts my heart.
So instead of cooking breakfast we fetched the mending kit.
I believe we kept our priorities in order.
Once the cow was whole again Summer relaxed and we could get on with our day.

Summer was so asleep she was snoring. I thought that this was my best chance to sneak, sneak, sneak into the kitchen to snack on a berry muffin.
I was ever so sneaky and quiet as I slowly and carefully opened the container. I figured I had it made.
Ready to snack my muffin with no sad eyes looking at me I turned around and Summer had out sneaked me instead.
I had no choice other than to share. Could be worse but I might not get away with anything ever again.

Summer and I have been chatting while we spend all of our time together today.
We wish we could give everyone who yearns for different leadership in America a great big hug and assure them that there are multitudes of us that feel the same way.
We think if all of the like minded linked arms we would reach around the world and back to our little northern California hillside.
That's what we think.

For anyone who likes happy dogs. I happen to have gone on an early morning walk with one this morning.
I took pictures.
We were out the door very early.
We made it all the way to the ocean for the first time since I was sick.
My husband decided to stay home and enjoy some hot chocolate and solitude.

Summer is preparing to meet her newest groomer this morning. Her long time groomer graduated from CalPoly Humboldt and moved two states away to start a new job. Crushed but happy for Jonah Summer is adjusting. Last month the owner of the mobile grooming company came to groom her and evaluate who would be the best match for her going forward. This morning we meet that person.
Jonah always said Summer was one of his favorite dogs. Hopefully the new groomer loves her too.
In the meantime she will meditate and think calm thoughts. It's possible she is just taking a nap but either way I hope all goes well because she deserves a caring and gentle person to spiff her up.
