Hallo Urs @uheplugins,

Audiosetup couldn't be easier on #LinuxAudio with Millisecond, follow the guide, mark your class compliant audio interface as Pro Audio in pavocontrol and you're ready to go.

This time I decided to just move over all folders related to plugins. I just connected the two laptops through ssh in Nautilus (Gnome Filebrowser), Couldn't be easier. Open the filebrowser, choose network, write ssh://(ip adress of old computer), type in the username and password on the old computer and start moving over.

Decided it was time to move my music production activities to my backup refurbished laptop, since it's more quiet and generally faster. I have installed CachyOS/Gnome again and followed my own guide (I should blog some more, so I remember what worked for me).

Laptop is a HP ZBook 15 G6, 32 GB of memory, 1 TB HD, NVIDIA Quadro T2000 3GB. A beast for the price of 600 euro, and there is even room for more memory and hard drives with easy access from the bottom.

#LinuxAudio #Linux

Switching to the HP ZBook also means I have an extra Thunderbolt port. With the Open Apollo driver project, I can now hopefully use my Apollo 8P as an Audio Interface instead of just a monitor controller, and my Zoom H6 can move back in the backpack.

The driver is still in experimental state, so it also means there will be quirks, but let's see. I can always go back to the Zoom H6 again.

I will keep you posted!

I know I said it was cool just starting to make music using the build in Audio Interface of my Zoom H6-recorder. And it is cool switching to Linux, going through all your stuff and wondering "Can I make this work" (looking at you my good old friend Pod XT live, you're next).

But... Now that I have used my Apollo 8P the last couple of days (and it actually works with the Open Apollo driver), I have to say it's a relief to yet again have a proper audio interface.

RE: mstdn.social/@linuxaudiodevelo…

This is an awesome interview with @ambientspace, mentioning this really great shout out to our lovely #LinuxAudio community here on Mastodon, which I completely agree on:

"The Mastodon circle of friends is global and it seems that many are already well versed and steeped in Linux and are generally very helpful and welcoming of my questions. It has been quite liberating."

Thank you #LinuxAudio community for coming to my aid regarding my woes with Linux Mint not mounting my SD cards. I opted to buy an inexpensive adapter, and now everything is working fine.

Y'all were literally more helpful than the actual Linux Mint forum and subreddit combined. ❀️

In case you missed it: One of the most interesting #linuxaudio Projects at the moment is the #OpenMixerProject. Right now, it's in an early alpha state, running on the X32, with barely the basic features implemented. But on the horizon, there's surround sound, plugins, lighting control, a Raspberry Pi extension board and even support for another manufacturer's stageboxes! In other words, things that no one ever dared to dream of. It's really a fun project to watch.

Playing around with Bitcrust, a cool synth modeled after the legendary SID chip (of Commodore 64 fame).

From the website: "The 6581 / 8580 architecture is the starting point, not the destination: oscillators, envelope, filter, and the glue between them are designed to capture the SID’s character… without trying to be a bit-accurate or cycle-accurate emulation."

Sounds nice and crunchy to me.

Free (free beer) on Linux; inexpensive on other OSes.

what a great interview.

Nice quote really nails it for me: "Proprietary operating systems have been getting worse release by release. Users are fed up with not owning anything, and that is before every OS trying to become "Agentic". The freedom and the sense of choice far outweigh any downsides that the migration may introduce. I have not seen anyone who regretted switching to Linux."

This convolution plugin Aava looks interesting - up to 4 IRs at once and you can modulate parameters of each, morph between them, turn on key tracking and/or tempo sync...

Available on the 3 typical desktop OSes so it gets the #LinuxAudio hashtag.

Right now you can get the @mouseplugins Smith Island EQ for free, and there is also a store-wide sale if you're curious of the other Mouse Plugins Native Linux line of plugins.

You can also get the (Pultec-style) trick free: mouseplugins.com/en/products/t…

Dear Friends of ranting, venting and letting off steam power. Toot, Toot!

Managed to download a much used package. Will now try another. I am using #EasyOS 7.2.3 fresh install as I was forced into a corner as the update did not go as easily as I would have liked.

Just to let you know it takes a while to get used to any #LinuxAudio and I have done my fill of distro hopping and hoping to stick with just a few on USB sticks.

Wishing you all well :agummyhug:

I was looking into plugins for my mixbus, and I seem to have a couple of holes in my Native Linux collection. I’m curious of what others do, so please chime in!

1: EQ with mid/side mode and stereo width. I have used bx_2098 a lot on Mac: plugin-alliance.com/products/b…

2: Multiband compression. I have used Fabfilter Pro-MB fabfilter.com/products/pro-mb-… and Precision Multiband: uaudio.com/products/precision-…

The solution could be to use native Bitwig Tools obviously.
