#LinuxAudio journey update - Do I *need* to run the Low-Latency Kernel? I'm not sure that I do as I don't have an audio interface.
I've been updating my notes so that I can rebuild all of this without too much drama (if needed).
Today I got my sample libraries sorted out by setting the discs with media to be auto-mounted at login. I have a curious issue with #BitwigStudio v4.0 not wanting to load mp3 audio, but v5.3.13 and v6-beta-6 handle this just fine.

AmbientSpace - Linux Audio Considerations

Today I found out something simple (which means, I was big stupid…)
If I don't use #LinuxStudioPlugins Impulse Reverb plugin, but the simpler Impulse Responses plugin, plus the more vivid color theme, I actually like it.

Another plugin impossible for me not to love is good old #Voxengo #Voxformer running on #Linux via #WinVST. Best tool for #mixing #vocals.
I use a very outdated version. But it does the job very well. The preset #compressor just hits the nail, the #deEesser is among the best I know and then there's this little pressence / tube driver simulation which you won't need for your studio mics, but which comes in handy for live recordings with mics like the Shure #Beta58 or even the old crap #SM58.
(The only caveat: Make sure to switch on 8x oversampling. The default is 1x, which sounds not as great.)

I am an #audiovisual person and regularly swapped #frontplate (s) during my #eurorack days (see e.g. grayscale.info/panels/) to make my system more beautiful. 🤓
Now I have found virtual panels swaps for @uheplugins #plugin (s), so to speak. 😊
These go far beyond just the look and seem to also introduce new #workflow (s).
I want to try some of them out soon. Ss it looks, they work on #linuxaudio, macOS, and Windows. 🥰

Even though I'd prefer the #plugin to be called something like Chocolate Oat Milk (I am #vegan 😂), this thing is absolutely killer on stems! 😎

I received notification from PACE that #linuxaudio #support for #ilok is planned, but there is no ETA yet.
I just wanted to report this briefly and objectively. 🙂
Therefore, the Linux Support Request Tracking list now also includes PACE/iLok:

Before the weekend I stumbled upon a toot from @illegalhex: hachyderm.io/@illegalhex/11542…
Read it, read it again and read it another time. Then I looked up Green Eggs and Ham from Dr. Seuss (TIL!) which made me appreciate this poem even more.
Grabbed my guitar and almost instantly inspiration popped up. So I spend this weekend recording and mixing the rendition of this poem to a short song.
Recorded and mixed with #Ardour. All #FOSS plugins. And thanks illegalhex for the inspiration!!!
What topic would you like to see me cover in my next #peertube #youtube #video on #linuxaudio?

Do you think the name “Linux Support Request Tracking” makes sense, or do you have a better suggestion?
Also, please let me know if you spot any vendors missing from this list.
Thank you for your help! 🙌

Dear #macos and #windows #musician (s) and #musicproducer (s),
what #plugin #vendor (s) would you need natively on #linux in order to be able to consider moving your music production to #linuxaudio?
I have already asked the following vendors for support:

I am interested to hear if, from your perspective, there are vendors missing on the list.
Thank you in advance for your help! 🙌

RME Digiface USB on Linux
With the release of the 6.12 kernel the RME Digiface USB is supported under Linux. Since this is a very portable device with lots of IO (32 in and 34 out) it got on my radar as a possible candidate for making recordings at my rehearsal space. It took a while before I stumbled upon […]

New rtcirqus 0.2.1 release. Fixed an error with sorting the list of IRQs that are used for Message Signaled Interrupts (MSI).

rtcirqus
rtcirqus, real-time config IRQ udev service, is a Python script that sets the real-time priority of IRQ threads of onboard and USB audio interfaces dynamically.Codeberg.org
Now what does rtcirqus actually do?
To answer that question let’s assume the following: Basically all components of a desktop computer or a laptop have an IRQ. Let’s say IRQs are some sort of communication lines between the brains of your computer (the CPU) and those components. All these communication lines are more or less the same as in, none of […]

What's (relatively) easy on #Linux, but close to impossible on #Windows and #macOS?
Well. Enabling Hifi-Mode in Zoom, because you want to sound good. (You need headphones/earplugs in order to not create any echo.) That's easy on all major OSses.
But to get a nice and loud singal, you need to apply an audio limiter yourself then. Because Zoom won't do this for you then.
Luckily, with the #Pipewire audio system of Linux, it is possible to connect the #Carla plugin host between #Zoom and your #AudioInterface.
In my example, I use the #Limiter of #LinuxStudioPlugins. Audio comes in from a #Focusrite #Scarlett 2i2 from a #Sennheiser #Lavalier mic.
Tricky? Well, you can't select the output of Carla in Zoom. You need to patch it manually in a patchbay application such as #Patchance.
EDIT: See 🧵 on how to create a virtual #PulseAudio / Pipewire device that can be seen by Zoom and other apps. This is essential since Zoom will disconnect its audio when not in use.
