Gen Zers and millennials are still big fans of books – even if they don’t call themselves ‘readers’
It turns out that identifying as a reader can be more about community, wealth and gender than how much someone actually reads. The Conversation
just a silly little idea, I'd love a podcast that could compile/curate some soundtracks for certain reading genres... sometimes I want that eerie music when reading some suspense books.
DnD playlists have helped but they usually are way too disperse or rely on the user selecting the song based on the mood (as opposed to just let it run).
does anyone know of some service, site, existing podcast or other that does something similar-ish? I'd appreciate it a lot #bookstodon #reading
In the most glorious "fuck you" I have seen in a while, you know the book that Cumberland City Council banned because they're homophobic bigots - Holly Duhig's "A focus on Same Sex Parents"? Well, the publisher, BookLife Publishing, have made a PDF version of the book available for free.
Sure be a shame if it was shared far and wide now, wouldn't it?
Every time you ban a book filled with hope and kindness, and care and love, we will resist.

Also: Erfolg!

4/5: I hadn't planned on reading this book. Reorganizing my bookshelf led me here. After sorting Q & A by Vikas Swarup as "general fiction" - I'm trying, really trying, to sort my books at least to a broad extent in various categories or genres - I h…www.goodreads.com

What’s behind the astonishing rise in LGBTQ+ romance literature?
It’s tempting to see this trend as a sign of the times. But the biggest book publishers started changing their approach only once they realized they were leaving money on the table. The Conversation
AI-generated books on Amazon now have the potential to kill people, as they've moved into the realm of mushroom foraging. Guides have popped up like, well, mushrooms, packed with information that makes no sense and could easily be dangerous, illustrated with structures that are "the mycological equivalent of a picture of a hot blond with six fingers and too many teeth," writes Vox's Constance Grady. Here's more.

Proposed bill in Alabama to allow the arrest of librarians.
No one is perfect—not even librarians. But professional #librarians are terrific. They're dedicated public servants, and they know how to library better than politicians do.
Let's trust librarians.

House advances bill allowing arrest of librarians
The bill would provide an avenue for librarians to be arrested if someone challenges a book as being "harmful to minors."Jacob Holmes (Alabama Political Reporter)

"Thirty-one authors and translators have withdrawn their work from consideration for or declined PEN America’s 2024 literary awards over the organisation’s 'failure to protect' Palestinian writers in Gaza.
"Nine out of 10 longlistees for the PEN/Jean Stein book award, worth $75,000, have withdrawn their books. Christina Sharpe, Catherine Lacey and Joseph Earl Thomas are among the withdrawing writers."

Started listening to one of my favourite football (soccer) series, always worried about the narration when I start listening to a book, not really an audiobook fan, but I’ve started to listen to books I’ve already read, good when I’m walking or doing something.
I tend to fall sleep within minutes if I’m not active while listening 🤷♀️
Anyways, this series is truly a wonderful read. I highly recommend it.
