AI-generated books on Amazon now have the potential to kill people, as they've moved into the realm of mushroom foraging. Guides have popped up like, well, mushrooms, packed with information that makes no sense and could easily be dangerous, illustrated with structures that are "the mycological equivalent of a picture of a hot blond with six fingers and too many teeth," writes Vox's Constance Grady. Here's more.

Proposed bill in Alabama to allow the arrest of librarians.

No one is perfect—not even librarians. But professional #librarians are terrific. They're dedicated public servants, and they know how to library better than politicians do.

Let's trust librarians.

Blue Machine paperback incoming! UK publication is this Thursday, May 2nd. The hardback is such a very beautiful object, with the Spilhaus projection of the ocean in blue and gold, and it will still be available. But now there's one with a wave on front too.

If you don't yet know why the ocean matters, and why it's SO much more than a blue filler with fish in, this is for you.

As Jews around the world begin to celebrate the festival of #Passover tonight, they’ll open up thousands of different editions of the Haggadah, the guide to the ritual feast.

The curator of a Judaica library looked through their collection of hundreds of Haggadahs to highlight three of his favorites – including this groundbreaking edition published in Amsterdam in 1695.

Chag sameach to all who celebrate!

They are right you know? If you aren't faithful to the book, why bother rushing and ruin TV adaptation? Target audiences? Profits? Cavill doesn't think so. Nor does Sapkowski or GRRM. Game of Thrones? Heroes? American Gods? And others. He's a fan of the original Witcher story from the books. Respect for the original material matters. Benioff better not do Liu Cixin injustice in season 2.

Halley's comet reappears after 76 years, and Mark Twain dies at his home, Stormfield, the day after the comet's perihelion. In his autobiography, Twain wrote, "I came in with Halley's comet in 1835. It's coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. The Almighty has said no doubt, 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'"

Ever since they announced the movie with Ryan Gosling, I knew I had to check out Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary (especially after loving The Martian!). And let me tell you, I devoured this book in 3 days flat!

I will look into this title, thanks for the recommendation.

"Under the Udala Trees" by Chinelo Okparanta is what I am currently listening to. I know you say that you are not an audio person, but many are so I will describe the audiobook a little. I enjoy the narrator, Robin Miles, and I have liked her narration in other books before. I'm only 20% into this story, set in Nigeria during late 60s/early 70s. So far I like it.

"Call and Response" by Gothataone Moeng.

Bought on a whim in Daunt Books Marylebone - and the first book by an author from Botswana I read. Stories that are both familiar (in their feelings) and very foreign (in their cultural context). A recommendation.

This is why I love good book stores & why I pass by Daunt Books when in London. I don't know any other book shop of that size that would be that international. So this is also a bookstore recommendation.
