Grilling on an overcast day, posting pics of yard flowers and such on the interwebs. Another day, another celebration of mundanity. Enjoy y'all :)

The Palm Tree Building of Łódź opened in 1956 and preserves trees that had previously grown in the private green houses of industrialists and Czarist officials. The glass building has repeatedly been expanded to accommodate growing trees, until nothing remains of the 1950s structure. But the tallest trees are still in their original places.

Our other clematis vine is doing well & blooming like crazy. Didn’t even notice the caterpillar till I was looking at the photos later. Everything in the #garden does great here until about June when the blast furnace heat arrives.

A few solar lights in a vegetable garden for aesthetic reasons?

Feel free to expound on your answer in a reply.

As is my custom every Earth Day here is Walt Kelly's iconic Earth Day 1970 poster. After all these years the message is still the same!

Now here's some Weird Science for ya: "Forced rhubarb, which is made to mature in near total darkness, grows at such an alarming rate—as much as an inch a day—that it actually makes squeaks, creaks, and pops as it gets bigger." Click through to the article for more info and to get a listen to the veggie-beats. 🤣 🌱

Decided to grow a street lamp.

Here it is at 3 weeks, 2 months, and fully grown at 6 months.

Looked up how tall Mullein usually grows, median answer is 6 ft, one site says up to 10 ft/ 3m.

My exuberant plant that's ~ 12ft/4m tall is looking down and laughing. Will save the seeds and share around. Heh, I love the idea of thinking of plants as Earth's middle finger to entropy that rules rest of the universe.

A pandemic habit I’ve kept: I set out free seedlings for people in the neighborhood to take.

My ground phlox (possibly Phlox subulata/moss phlox) has achieved blanket status.

I'm a sucker for mass blooms. A friend of mine has large swaths of this phlox & was kind enough to borrow me a cup 2 yrs ago. A cup that was 1.5' x 2' chunk that I then plopped down in a 1.5' x 2' space.

Easy peasy phlox carpet squee-sy.

Nature is ridiculous! This transformation of the strawberry runners I ordered happened within ONE WEEK. They arrived after being in the mail for 6 days. I just stuck the roots in water for a couple hours, planted them, and voila. Thriving. This will never stop blowing my mind.

Some plants that once thrived in your yard may not flourish there now. Take a look at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s recent update to its plant hardiness zone map, which can help you figure out which plants are most likely to thrive in your unique area, as temperatures get warmer:
