Can we all stop using and recommending peat based composts please?
It takes so long to make, peat is a non renewable source
It does far more good storing carbon in the ground in situ than it ever will do in a garden, yes, even for growing food.
I’ve just seen a website recommending using peat based compost😭
Peat was introduced as a cheaper filler for compost mixes within the lifetime of people alive today. It was not always used. We can switch away
Headphones is also gardening today. Here he is inspecting his cat grass and catnip patch. Stay for the kisses! 💋

I tipped out water yesterday I figured had the wrong sort of larva wriggling in it. In Dublin, Ireland if that makes a difference.
And if anyone has the secret to filling my garden with dragonflies and damselflies , let me know. A pond is on my medium term plans

I'm really enjoying the high purpleness in the garden, with oodles of Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) and abundant second flowering of Wisteria, complimented by the deep pinkiness of Veronicastrum virginicum 'Fascination'. In there somewhere is also self-seeded Purple Toadflax. All a magnet for pollinators. I'm relishing them while I can, as they may not last in this heatwave.
P.S. This is a tiny garden, so plants like this have a real impact.
Melissa's crazy Italian squash has claimed the entire side yard. It's now called New Squashland.
Would you look at the size of my first ever pumpkins!!! If they're this big now are they going to be GINORMOUS in October?!! 🎃 there's like 30 of them as well. Might open a pumpkin stall out front if they're gonna be awesome.

The new rock garden I created in April is coming along nicely, and some of the wildflowers are starting to bloom in and among the rocks. 🌼🪨🪵
My milkweed appeared on its own when I stopped mowing the lawn a few years ago. This afternoon the fragrant blossoms were a magnet for bumblebees.

Harvested the Green Mountain multiplier onions today. They are all shapes & sizes. Some are red which is interesting! Put 22 plants, grown from seed, into the raised bed last summer. I seem to have 40 bulbs. Some sent up scapes, so those will be eaten/ chopped/frozen. I think I planted them too early. I hope to save & replant some. Over all a good experiment!

Advice on selecting bulbs to replant welcome 🙏
