Any advice, short of "use another domain," for a Mastodon self-destruct gone wrong?

Edit: 3 was the winner. mastodon.social/@pixelfed/1137…

We're preparing our app for release on the App Store, help us decide which design to use for the app previews.

Comment 1, 2, 3 or 4 please!

Thanks for your feedback!

We are going with option 3, with a few tweaks.

We may reuse 1,2 or 4 for our Google Play Store listing.

Does anyone know of an #OpenAccess full-text #PDF #search engine/tool using which I can search for relevant PDFs from a self-hosted #database?

Context: we have a curated database of #research articles but so far our search capability has been limited to tagged keywords or title and abstract field search only. We'd like to be able to search the entire PDF.

Side note: I know that PDFs are not a great way to store scientific information. I'd prefer not to use a proprietary #LLM if possible

Dear Fediverse,

PowerDNS-Admin appears to be deprecated in favour of pda-next which hasn't seen any work in nigh on a year. NixOS is keeping it limping along; but there're more and more cracks appearing.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative web interface for administering PowerDNS ?

One thing I have found about the Fediverse is it kind of sucks when it comes to old posts you might want to see and react to that didn't get seen by your account or instance as they are to young.

It would be amazing if there was a way for your account to 'see' the old posts from instances by simply searching the original post url or something.

Is there any work around for this, I found Boosting the original post on Mastodon is alright but what do you do for Lemmy stuff?

My husband keeps a list of "mental health webcams" (as in, live cameras at national parks, nature reserves, watching animal nests, etc.) to check when he needs a break during his workday. It's a very him thing, and I love it.

But I was clued in to a couple of feeds that I've now pinned to check on, and I think I want more.

So, what is your favorite scenic live webcam?

Nature is good, but I'm open to built spaces, too. Non-US would be especially good.

Anyone have suggestions for cataloging a vinyl record collection? Any self-hosted applications? I'd rather not use a spreadsheet but I'll go that route if I have to.

An #Android or #Linux app would be great, or a web app that runs in Docker.

EDIT: Thanks to @mkj for showing me tellico-project.org/

#AskFedi #Poll Have you heard of, or are you familiar with, the #Christmas pickle tradition?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christma…

  • Yes, I do it (12%, 10 votes)
  • Yes, I've heard of it but I don't do it (28%, 22 votes)
  • WTF are you talking about? (59%, 46 votes)
78 voters. Poll end: 2 weeks ago

Hey self-hosting people!

A couple of years ago I asked about people's experiences with self-hosting email:

social.growyourown.services/@h…

The consensus at the time seemed to be that self-hosting email wasn't worth the trouble, and that it was a pain compared to other forms of self-hosting.

Has anything changed? Is email still much more difficult to self-host than other online services?

And a related question: Do you know of any #UK universities/departments/research centres that have an active presence on the #fediverse?

#Askfedi #AcademicFedi #AcademicChatter

Which #mastodon instance would you recommend to host the institutional account for an interdisciplinary academic department in the UK?

scholar.social would be great, but it's not admitting more users. Other alternatives I've considered: sciences.social/ (although not all of us are social scientists), h-net.social (not all of us from humanities) or datasci.social (not all of us are data scientists)
