Nicaragua filed an application at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) instituting proceedings against Germany.
Why? Nicaragua alleges that Germany is violating:
- its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide
- the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols
- “intransgressible principles of international humanitarian law”, and
- other norms of general international law
... in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly the Gaza Strip.
Oral hearing will start today.

A group of hundreds of German civil servants have written to Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other senior ministers calling on the government to “cease arm deliveries to the Israeli government with immediate effect”.
They sent the statement via email to ministries last week, with the disclaimer that “due to the sensitive content and the excessive state repression that criticism in this area is met with, we want to remain anonymous”.
